JohnT Posted January 23, 2013 #1 Posted January 23, 2013 buddy had new fork seals installed on his (previously my) 84. It has a fork oil leak through the o rings for the anti dive. After replacing the O rings there is still a leak.Are the O rings a very particular size? Or is there anything that would cause for fork oil to leak from the anti dive? Doesn't appear warped or damaged. It's clean and smooth. Thoughts?
dingy Posted January 23, 2013 #2 Posted January 23, 2013 They will be a metric size. If thickness of O-Ring is undersized it will not seal. Typically, 25% thicker o-ring than groove depth for anti dive type application. Gary

On my 83, I had a leak there, and replaced the O rings...a couple of times. Then I saw that the valves were leaking. I have Progressive springs in these forks, and the anti-dive brake lines had already been disconnected. I had a buddy in the machine shop at work, and he made me up plates that would replace the valves. When the anti-dive isn't activated, there is oil flow through the valves, so you can't just put a flat plate....you need the passage that connects the two ports. I think Skydoc17 sells plates for this. Frank D.

It would be a much more labor intensive part if the pass through port where integrated into the design. If they were simply milled across on face of plate, o-ring would not work. Or a custom o-ring would be made, very costly for low quantities. Plate would have to be much thicker, the O-ring recess then made as a counterbore. Then cross dilled to connect the two counterbores, then cross drilling tapped & plugged on entrance side. Gary

ricksbike Posted August 30, 2014 #9 Posted August 30, 2014 A good friend of mine had the same problem on his 83 he found another valve at a cycle salvage yard,put it on and it cured it.
