mechanic1 Posted February 28, 2014 Author #102 Posted February 28, 2014 This past Tuesday, our son Justin got a lot of good news. ....Finally know why his jaw is locked ...scar tissue from the accident...soon seeing oral surgeon at UAB to see what can be done about that to fix it.....he did very well on his swallow test so can have any liquid he wants now....and just imagine....a milkshake first one in over a year...lol....also his doc at Spain rehab in Birmingham was impressed enough with his improvements that has his back in PT and OT again...and signed up for speech therapy after his jaw fix is over and done....so....a very encouraging week and he is all fired up to get at it...lol:fingers-crossed-emo
XV1100SE Posted February 28, 2014 #103 Posted February 28, 2014 Really glad he has progressed as much as he has. Considering his condition from the accident...he is doing great !
mechanic1 Posted May 27, 2014 Author #104 Posted May 27, 2014 Well Justin had surgery on his jaw joints and appears it has went very well. he can now open his mouth and weak and faint as it was,...he said his daughters name again for the first time in 16 months. She was so excited she keep telling him to say it again over and over...lol. He still has a lot of swelling but getting better. So, now hopefully with time and rehab maybe he will be able to eat some real food and get rid of the treak too:fingers-crossed-emo....oh, he says he can swallow now too.

Being a new member here and from Alabama, I just saw your posts tonight and visited the Facebook page and was touched by Justin and all the updates that his wife has been giving everyone for so long. I belong to a nonprofit, primarily helping families and children that have fallen victim of childhood cancer and since I began helping this organization. I have become more interested in all types of problems that people such as Justin face. We take life for granted. I am currently extremely close to a 5 year old girl and her family that have been battling this disease for 2 years. It seemed for a while that she may have it kicked, but very recently was giving only a couple of months to live. Just really wanted to say thank you for your posts and bringing Justin to my attention. He and his family will definitely be in our prayers. BTW, the non profit in which I help is: Team Thomas J, named after the late Thomas J. Sullivan, aka Superman. A 6 year old boy that passed away with cancer 1 year ago today. I am the one that runs the website, Facebook and manages most of our events, including the bike rides.
Barrycuda Posted May 27, 2014 #106 Posted May 27, 2014 many prayers headed your way that your son and family recover from this.
mechanic1 Posted September 23, 2014 Author #108 Posted September 23, 2014 My hat is off to you YamahaLarry....the kids like that would absolutely kill me....at least Justin was grown...27 at the time of his accident. Justin is still improving though slower now....It is almost hunting season and he is all AMPED up....WE almost got his new box stand built and he has always loved to hunt..I'll have to post some pic of it...I was scared to death last year until he shot his rifle for the first time....was afraid of what the recoil would do to him...but once again...he surprised me...and had it reloaded by himself like right now!...
Flyinfool Posted September 23, 2014 #109 Posted September 23, 2014 It is great to hear that he is still improving. Some things just take time, sometimes a lot of time. After my dads accident it took him 2.5 years before he could drive a car again. but with time he got there. I hope that Justin continues to show improvement with time.
blue mtn. jim Posted September 23, 2014 #110 Posted September 23, 2014 being a believer in JESUS is the hardest thing you will ever do! I look at the fact that if the LORD wanted him home he would have took him, that being said I believe he has something for your son to do for him. GOD is not done with him yet!! He may have a testimony that needs sharing for others that have plowed that path and only those who been there will understand. I know that personally, I was a drunk stoned married 4 times dirtbag of the lowest kind. He could have snuffed me out like a candle, but HE was not done with me. Only GOD will do what no human can do, because we will take the credit. But if GOD does it then HE deserves the honor and glory and HIM alone! and I will pray, Jim
