dwatson636 Posted January 19, 2013 #1 Posted January 19, 2013 Have / do any of you ride with a meetup.com group? We used to ride with a great meetup group in Phoenix, but have had a difficult time finding the same kind of group here in Denver. Just wondering???
DarkLeftArm Posted January 19, 2013 #2 Posted January 19, 2013 Yes. Been riding with the AZ Longriders for 2 years now. Great bunch of people. Bert
Guest scarylarry Posted January 19, 2013 #3 Posted January 19, 2013 Yes I do we have 200+ members... I swear if they all show up for a ride I would go back home.... Great group people and made several over night rides with them.. Do like we did start a group give it a name and people will come, 3 including myself are starting a Kaw forum set up like this, there are only a few changes we are doing.. It is costly on the start up but we ask for yearly donation of 5.00 and if there is any money left over we then apply it to a spring get together or a fall get together.. You can never see who gave what but the admin. can, but you can see what was given and what is in the kitty left over.. Great set and very easy to do...
dwatson636 Posted January 19, 2013 Author #4 Posted January 19, 2013 We rode for 4 years with the Phoenix Motorcycle Riders Group. Meetup. The PMRG was really great. Probably around 200 members. The rides would be up to 30 or so on a good ride. There was a little bit of everybody involved. Harleys to sport bikes and everything in between. There are a few groups in Denver. But they all seem to be poorly managed. We went to meet one of them for a ride. Went to the restaurant, had breakfast and when it was time to meet. no one was there, or no one made any attempt to let others know who they were. In Phoenix, the meetup page had all who were coming and we would always meet at a gas/convenience store. I thought about starting one, but have never led a ride and am still a little new at getting around here in Denver.
Guest scarylarry Posted January 19, 2013 #5 Posted January 19, 2013 I would suggest you start one, we did and less than 2 yrs we have grown and still growing.. As you stated they will come on everything type of bike, one thing and let give you a heads up... Try to know your riders and how they ride, there is that small number that never group rode and you need to know this.. We have meet up all through the winter someone will post a date, time and place.. Most everyone that checks YES shows.. It has been great thing for us and we are some what a tight knit group..
dwatson636 Posted January 19, 2013 Author #6 Posted January 19, 2013 The ones that are here in Denver never seem to go on any rides, or at least very few. In Phoenix, there were rides all the time, some big, some small. But always a good selection. So, if I start one here, I am going to mirror the Phoenix one. A problem though, I have never been the lead in any of our rides. I don't think it would be a problem... but you never know. Again in Phoenix, we never had to worry about the hot dog rider or the dangerous rider. Do you have issues with problem bikers? And if so, how do you handle them. And do you make everyone who joins sign some kind of we are not responsible waver?
Guest scarylarry Posted January 19, 2013 #7 Posted January 19, 2013 Do you have issues with problem bikers? And if so, how do you handle them This is the south we choot em and eat em... No we never had a issue in the whole time, we make it very clear we are a no patch and we have women riders and women with their better half... 90% of them are married, so there are no issues, one thing we do is when we stop for lunch and someone wants to drink a beer or two there is nothing said... Again that isn't a problem for us, myself will drink a couple with my meal... This is a good group, like I said we very close knit, nothing for text all saying I'm eating dinner at 6 at such and such place wanna come? That will be dead winter and rain/snowing... Lot of it is keeping things happening, and tell folks you want to plan a ride post it someone if not all will show... We let anyone that rides with us post a ride..
