Got some new safety chrome

I got some new safety chrome for jeannie's trike last week, thought id post a picture of them. I bought them from forum member Slowrollwv (Chuck) who makes these and carb covers from stainless. They look awesome!

What do these pieces cover??

They are breather covers, (AKA Twinkie covers). they fit at the base of the V between the cylinders. You can see them in this picture.

I never had good luck with any stainless pieces on bikes or cars. It scratches really easy. If it's going to be shiny it has to be real chrome for me.

Have been thinking about fabricating a one piece cover for the whole gap between the cylinders that go all the way up to to the gastank. What I don´t know is how these twinkie covers as well as the carb covers are fastened to the bike/frame ?

Most likely I would have to make a bracket to bolt on the bike/frame that the cover would then be bolted on.

Could someone tell me where these two covers are bolted on the bike/frame ?

Jonas, the twinkie covers go on with a longer screw that replaces the end screws that hold on the twinkie itself. It's been too long for me to remember how the carb covers go on but I remember it was real easy...

Take a look at a picture I posted of engine and you'll see the "twinky" covers at the base between the cylinders. The official name is engine breather covers I think.

I know what they are but the question is where do the screws fasten that hold the twinkies in place - from what part of the engine/frame are the screws ? I am also wondering how the carburator covers are fastened. Me and a friend of mine in Iceland "that works for a company that cuts out mirror steel" we are working on making one cover that will fill up the whole gap from the bottom of the VEE all the way up to the tank. We are also considering cutting out "Venture" or whatever name one requires in the cover and put some colored plexi behind and some LED lighting. Don´t know if this is understandable but I will make a insertion to your picture to try to show what I mean and post later tonight.

 

Are you getting rid of that nasty flue my friend ?

The engine breather cover is held on by one screw. The twinky shaped piece that it covers has a screw on each end. You remove the outer screw and it drops through a recessed hole in the new cover and then threads back into the original hole.

 

The carb covers have spacers behind them. On the RSV, there are what look like stamped metal strips around the choke linkage and etc. if I remember correctly and the screw and spacers screw into existing holes in those strips. It's been a while since I looked but it was something like that.

I pretty much get the picture now. If we succeed in making a decent cover I will post a picture. Not sure this will turn out the way I picture it but I want to try it.

The Royal Stars need some new accessories and also it is fun to try to invent something new.

Don described it pretty good. The carb covers also use a tubed spacer where the diaphragm cover screws go thru. Jonas your idea sounds pretty good to but to mount it you'll definitely need to fabricate some brackets and then mount your cover to them.

Yes, a bracket will surely have to be made. Just wanted to get some info on where these covers were mounted so I could make the brackets accordingly.

 

I am pretty exited about this project to tell the truth. There is no producer of accessories inventing new things for the Venture/Royal Stars to my knowledge and we always need something new for our bikes - right ?

 

If this will turn out o.k. or not time will tell. We have just started and have a long way to go.

When done and ready and IF it turns out good I will post some pictures.

If it was polished once it can be polished again and again the stainless won't be flaking off either if neglected like so many chrome pieces do.

 

I never understood the importance of having billet alum. chromed instead of just polished.

 

Slowroll makes a great product and well made I have both the carb covers and twinkie covers and they look great. If they do dull it's simple to remove and re polish but with proper care they last a long time and never rust.
