I ran across this lil oddity while checking out what was going on the block at this year's Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale sale. It's based on a Piaggio/Vespa 150cc scooter and was done by artist Randy Grubb. Named the "Decopod", the handmade all aluminum shell weighs all of 30 lbs.(!) and it is supposed to be capable of doing 60 mph. I missed seeing it go across the block today but can you believe someone actually paid $25,300 for it??

Looks like a giant armadillo with a windshield and light attached. Some people have way too much money on their hands if they dropped $23,000 for this thing. Wonder if its considered the 3rd generation?

If I had the talent to make something like that I would make a mini Airstream to go behind my bike. Now that would be cool. Saw a bike in Pigeon Forge pulling one that looked like a Vet and also the mini horse trailers.

Other interesting goodies at B/J this year included George Barry deciding to finally sell the original BatMobile from the Adam West/Burt Ward series. B/J's went nuts over the car. More people crowded around the car on it's drive to the sale block than I've [or anyone else!] seen taking pics and getting a close up look at what is an unmistakable vehicle. The sale platform was so crowded that the tv crew had to get off of it during the sale. End price was $4.2 MILLION plus 10% buyer's as well as seller's fees. OUCH! The buyer made it very clear afterward that he was going to get the car no matter what.

Other vehicles were the "Green Hornet" a one of a kind double concept '67 Shelby Cobra Mustang currently owned by the owner of B/J, Craig Jackson. Bidding broke $2M but I understand it was a "No Sale". Something I haven't seen at B/J's in several years were vehicles with reserve pricing included this and several other cars. GM sold the first production 2014 Vette for charity. That one went for $300k to Nascar team owner Rick Hendrick and that wasn't the only car he gets to haul home! They also sold Clark Gable's "gullwing" Mercedes Benz for $1.85M. It must be nice!

I had my usual "lottery winnings" spending dreams. On my "bucket list" is a trip to the Scottdale sale and hopefully I'll also be able to afford the pass into the main sale pavillion which is something like $200. It is not a cheap sale to go to even if you just walk the grounds and see the cars and vendors.

One of these years!!

I've been watching 'Fantacy Land' aka Barret Jackson, and often wonder what some of these buyers do for a living to afford dropping that kind of coin on some of these '50-'60 resto-mods. I have to admit the intertainment factor is there, but the dream value wanes after the first day with the also rans in the 10-15K range... The Mecum Auction is running in Kissamee FL online. It will go live on Velocity TV for the last couple of days later this week. It's more my speed as far as values go. At least I can dream a little.... :) The big difference is Mecum has reserves and can be removed once sanity sets in with the seller. BJ is white collar and Mecum is blue collar..... :2cents:
