djh3 Posted January 17, 2013 #1 Posted January 17, 2013 Went out started bike to go to Dr appt. Started fine but whlie warming up just died. I changed the fuel filter the other day and I knoticed it sounded like the fuel pum ran maybe twice as long when key is turned on. Even if you turn it on prime up then turn off for a couple min it runs alot when turned back on after short period off. I will double ck to see filter is in correct way. But does it sound like the pump just took this opertunity to crap out?

IF not then it's the pump. If you are I'd suspect a blockage in the fuel line somewhere. Did it react this way before you changed the filter??
BoomerCPO Posted January 17, 2013 #4 Posted January 17, 2013 I would check to make sure the fuel filter is installed with the correct fuel flow direction.... Boomer....who sez de pygmies pooched me up that way once when I refused to take em to Dairy Queen.
djh3 Posted January 17, 2013 Author #5 Posted January 17, 2013 While sitting in the wainting room I got to thinking. I closed the shut off valve while working on the filter. When I got home, sure enough it was still closed. DOUGH what a dummy.
Flyinfool Posted January 17, 2013 #6 Posted January 17, 2013 At least it did not require a trip to Radio Shack........

Boomer....who sez a nice ride to Dairy Queen will calm yer nerves...
djh3 Posted January 17, 2013 Author #8 Posted January 17, 2013 Yup When I first got bike I closed petcock every night when parking. Then next day I would ride a little ways and cough cough oops open it up. My other bike was FI so didnt have that issue. So I have just got out of the habit of messing with petcock except when flipping to reserve. If its going to sit for several days I try to remember to close it, but not allways. And yea Jeff glad I didnt have to make another trip to RS.
Barrycuda Posted January 17, 2013 #9 Posted January 17, 2013 Gee whiz...I did that myself one of the first times and wasn't going to admit that d'OH moment. My Vulcan is FI and after cursing and pushing it back to the garage, looking and feeling dumb, it dawned on me the reason. Hasn't happened again.
djh3 Posted January 18, 2013 Author #10 Posted January 18, 2013 Yea I'm glad I already made an addition to the post here few days back about "silly thing I have done" and lived to tell about it. I can remember having both cars the same brand (fords) and putting the key in and wouldnt turn. So pulled keys out, thought I switched and still nothing. Well shoot the lock picked a heck of a time to crap out. I went in garage to look for something and the wife jumped in the car and drove off. Hmm I seperated key rings after that.
