meach Posted January 16, 2013 #1 Posted January 16, 2013 ,,,enough is enough. So we go for 3 months or so here in GA with almost no rain (local lakes looked like Kansas farmland) now it seems it just won't stop, one storm after the next has kept it raining for days on end. At least has been warm up until tomorrow when temps are going to fall, now we're supposed to get rain/sleet/snow/freezing rain and then black ice. Couple inches of rain overnight then a dusting or so of snow (more in the mnts) as temps fall . Smokys have gotten up to 7 inches of rain or so last few days. Several county school systems in TN were closed due to high water, flooding creeks, rivers, etc. My son lives north of Knoxville on Norris Lake and it rose nearly 4 ft in one day. Several highways closed due to rock/mud slides including US 441 thru SMNP. Lets see what mother nature has coming next.
Venturous Randy Posted January 16, 2013 #2 Posted January 16, 2013 We have a lot of roads and schools closed here in the Johnson City, Bristol and Kingsport area. We may have up to a foot of snow in the mountains around here in the next few days. The biggest problem is we have had a train of rain. The rain is moving north east, but staying in the same track. If we had been about 15 degrees cooler, we would have had close to four feet of snow by now and it is not over. This thing is still extending to the Gulf. I hope everyone is ok out there. RandyA
GAWildKat Posted January 17, 2013 #3 Posted January 17, 2013 Yeah, it's raining here in Warner Robins GA as I type, I'm not happy about this....why you ask? Mike has that interview for the internship in the morning as always he's taking the bike, thankfully he will wear the rain gear (he almost never does even in winter). His dress suit is in a garment bag inside the trunk bag that goes on the sissy bar rack, and it has it's waterproof bag on too. Can you tell I prepare like a boy scout?
djh3 Posted January 17, 2013 #4 Posted January 17, 2013 I was going to say. FRom what our weatherman here in Tampa Bay area said last night, you all are in for like 3 days of rain. We are suposed to get some Thur I think then temps drop for a couple days.
GAWildKat Posted January 17, 2013 #5 Posted January 17, 2013 And there's a call for snow in Birmingham AL tomorrow, no such forecast for Middle GA, but the rain makes people act like idiots around here.
meach Posted January 17, 2013 Author #6 Posted January 17, 2013 Here is picture of the 441 slide, about a football length slid away, will be closed for some time on the NC side. When ever the S word is mentioned around here they wipe out all the milk and bread in the stores like its the end of the world.
Phoneman1981 Posted January 17, 2013 #7 Posted January 17, 2013 Send some of that moisture this way!!!!!
Jayceesfolly Posted January 17, 2013 #8 Posted January 17, 2013 I'll take the rain any day, the weather people are calling for below 0 F by Monday & Tuesday night in our area.

You are no different than us, they get stupid here...They wipe Kroger out last night and today it was around 40..Long live what we had I must have slept through it.. We have a lot of schools closed cause of the flu, which is good cause some go to school sick...
N3FOL Posted January 17, 2013 #10 Posted January 17, 2013 It has been pretty ugly on our end as well. From a small snow bout with salt on the roads then fog for 3 days then rain up to now. I've never got the chance to get a descent ride for 3 weeks now. I feel for you GA. NE, there is rain coming your way by the end of today according to forecast.
Nemo Posted January 17, 2013 #11 Posted January 17, 2013 Hello Meach! Not a related subject, but when I noticed that you are from Marietta, GA, I had to respond. I was in the Air Force, stationed in Marietta, at Dobbins AF Base. I'm wondering if that Base still exists. Dated several good looking girls from Marietta. Those were the fun days! Owen.

Yup, the base still exists as does Robins AFB, where I'm located (no Hubby nor I are military). I drive by Dobbins when the hubs and I make the trek to see the inlaws in NE GA.

Dobbins is still there although some changes over the years, and has fought off several attempts to close it (noise complaints, etc.) and/or turn it into a commercial airport to relieve Atlanta (as I understand was originally built to be a commercial airport) believe some of the outlying property was sold off, they built a new radar (looks like a giant golfball) not long ago which is used by Atlanta airport, they share runways with Lockheed -Martin (builder of F22, C130, etc so a variety of planes come and go. Just a few days ago a C-17 kept coming over the house pretty low, training I guess. Other services also have detachments at Dobbins such as Marines. Marietta as well as rest of metro Atlanta has grown a lot over the years encroaching on Dobbins. I'm a transplant myself (from TN orig), was also in Air Force back in the 70's.
Flyinfool Posted January 17, 2013 #14 Posted January 17, 2013 We could still use the rain up here. All we are going to get is the cold (Sub zero predicted) with no precip.
Venturous Randy Posted January 17, 2013 #15 Posted January 17, 2013 The rain has stopped here and this is what it is doing now. RandyA
