Freebird Posted February 4, 2008 Author #51 Posted February 4, 2008 Yes, I've thought about it but that's about all. We'll see if the manufacturers come back with any comments on that.
loehring Posted February 4, 2008 #52 Posted February 4, 2008 Interested in a 1st Gen. Almost 20 and still runs awesome. Let's see if the 2nd Gen holds up as well. Only time will tell. (There's an argument no one can win. )
AmnChode Posted February 4, 2008 #53 Posted February 4, 2008 Interested, but like many have said, price will be the determining factor.
Bubbajbi Posted February 4, 2008 #54 Posted February 4, 2008 Interested, but like many have said, price will be the determining factor. Same here!
Freebird Posted February 5, 2008 Author #55 Posted February 5, 2008 OK folks...I'm still waiting on another quote but the first one I got may be too much for most folks. The total cost for 250 kits would be $115.00 and that is MY cost. Doesn't include shipping from the manufacturer or to each of you. At this point, I'm thinking to drop the project completely or try to find a Chinese manufacturer. I would actually probably pay that much but I don't know that I could sell 250 of them. The cost to make the master patterns for a cast urethane resin kit scale 1/12th of your bike is. $10,000.00 for the master patterns, includes rubber molds. The per kit cost after that is $75.00 each minimum order 250 units. Terms: are 50% down and the remainder upon completion lead time is 8 to 10 weeks for the master pattern and first article sample
Guest BluesLover Posted February 5, 2008 #56 Posted February 5, 2008 The total cost for 250 kits would be $115.00 and that is MY cost. Ouch ... for that price, I'll just go have a look at mine in the garage whenever I get lonely ... or just look at the VR calendar ... . Thanks for trying Don. Cheers,
sarges46 Posted February 5, 2008 #57 Posted February 5, 2008 ....Wow..dont do anything Don...those are some prices...10 grand just for moulds!! I never would have guessed it.
Bartley Posted April 5, 2008 #58 Posted April 5, 2008 Don....I know I resurrected an older thread, but I was just wondering what's happened with this model situation. I know I would buy one because even if it's $200.00, it's still cheap for a lifelong momento for what I think will be my all-around favorite bike ever! Maybe others feel the same way.
BIG TOM Posted April 5, 2008 #59 Posted April 5, 2008 SOUNDS GOOD DON, KEEP ME INFORMED..IM DEFINATELY INTERESTED..IF ITS EXPENSIVE,ILL GET TATERS TO BUY IT AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT OR SOMETHING..IM NO FOOL...BY THE WAY LIQUID SILVER IS A NICE COLOR TO HAVE THEM CAST IN....

Stratcat Posted April 5, 2008 #61 Posted April 5, 2008 OK folks...I may again be getting myself into something that I will regret but I'm getting pretty used to that. I've tried for years to find and buy a scale model of the RSV. Die cast, plastic, whatever. There is simply nothing available. So this evening I got on it again and this time I found a custom manufacturer who is interested in doing it for me. I asked him to give me a price based upon quantity, detail, etc. I've seen samples of other projects that he has done and they are fantastic. At this time, I have no idea about the cost. He is supposed to get back to me early next week with all the details. I sent him a lot of pictures of my RSV and he said that he will be reviewing them over the weekend. So....there you have it. Is there any interest? Be interested in hearing what he has to say!
Little Bob Posted April 6, 2008 #62 Posted April 6, 2008 FreeBird, I would be interested in one. Let me know.
MikeM8560 Posted April 6, 2008 #63 Posted April 6, 2008 Do I detect a little JEOLOUSY??? Eat You Heart out 1ST gens here is a REAL Bike None what so ever Time for Dinner http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/MikeM8560/Venture%20XVZ12/100_01yyyyyy56-1.jpg:smile11:Just in Fun Thom did start it.
Guest Bigin Posted April 6, 2008 #64 Posted April 6, 2008 They already make a model for that one.... All you'll need to do is swap out the Harley logos.....:rotf: That cracked me up Condor!
skzoid Posted April 6, 2008 #65 Posted April 6, 2008 I am interested even if it is $100+. I'm sure the price goes down as the volume goes up. It would be nice if Yamaha did the production work. I'm sure they could guarantee more distribution. Keep me updated.
Stanman Posted April 6, 2008 #66 Posted April 6, 2008 They already make a model for that one.... All you'll need to do is swap out the Harley logos.....:rotf: I agree, seems like some manufacturers prefer to clone Harley's.
Freebird Posted April 6, 2008 Author #67 Posted April 6, 2008 I can of dropped the idea folks. I posted the price a few threads up. I would be willing to pay the price but the minimum order is 250 and I don't think there is any way that we will get that many people to buy them. Sorry.
Freebird Posted April 9, 2008 Author #68 Posted April 9, 2008 OK folks. After getting several emails from members asking me to continue in my pursuit of this project, I'm giving it another try. I am presently in contact with several manufacturers in an attempt to get something more affordable. Most of these things are made in China. As some of you know, I worked for a company in Hong Kong for about 12 years so I do have some contacts in Hong Kong and China. I've made some direct contact with manufacturers there and will report back when I know more.
1sttenor Posted April 9, 2008 #71 Posted April 9, 2008 Depending on price I'd be interested. Look great in my office!

awsmsrv Posted August 14, 2008 #73 Posted August 14, 2008 Hey Don, did this go anywhere? Still very interested.
Freebird Posted August 14, 2008 Author #74 Posted August 14, 2008 No, I'm sorry to say that it did not. Just too expensive for me to pursue.
Carbon_One Posted August 15, 2008 #75 Posted August 15, 2008 Don't know how I missed this thread and would be interested but like Don says this is just too much for most folks. Someday maybe. Larry
