Mike,

I know several members here that have done the swap on the G2, Freebird being one of them and Leadwolf56 being another. I have talked with both of them on it and they love it, great for pulling a trailer, or just a little more seat in the pants, like 05 silver mentioned "Just do it"

Hey Mark I'm planning on doing the same thing Looks like a Win Win for the 2nd gen bikes. By the way I grew up in Hurst have you lived there very long.

I bought mine from SportMax. He removes the gears and puts them in the RSV housing so you sill have the hole for the sensor. Some people have had a hole machined though.

I have the VMAX rear and just bought the Dyna 3000. I was thinking of setting the rev limiter to 7500 RPM. The next choice lower is 7250. Is the 7500 too high?

Mind you what I'm about to say is only based on 1st gens, but the engines are almost identical. I have run my 1st gens over 8K on the rpms and the valves were not floating, it still pulled well. The 7500K is probably not going to hurt your motor. The reason it has a rev limiter is due to Yamaha offering the 5 year unlimited mile warranty.

I know a vast majority of the G2 guys have the limiter set at 7250K and are pretty happy with it. Try it out and see what you feel is right for you.

Valves will float at 8300~8500 on a stock 1st gen. Been there, done that.

I have hit over 10,000 with modified motor and no float.

I run mine at 7250, Gator06 has his at 7500 but he has a different cam installed. The 2nd gens do have a "weaker" valve spring that may allow it to float the valves between 7500 and 8000 rpm. 7250 gives me a lot more rev room.

Just DO IT!!! John @ SportMax is top notch in my book!!! :)

You will LOVE what is does for 1st gear! So I'm told :whistling: you can really lift the front wheel.....

Add Skydoc's clutch upgrade and it is even better getting a heavy trailer moving. :cool10::cool10::cool10:
