Midrsv Posted January 8, 2013 #1 Posted January 8, 2013 Just stumbled upon this youtube video of a Venture and a couple of Goldwings drag racing. Running in the low 14's I thought the Venture held up very well to the Goldwing. [ame] [/ame] Dennis
Pegasus1300 Posted January 8, 2013 #2 Posted January 8, 2013 It looked like the Venture was bogging off the line, maybe not enough rpm to launch?
SilvrT Posted January 8, 2013 #3 Posted January 8, 2013 put someone in the saddle that knows what they're dooin and those times would be a lot different
Venturous Randy Posted January 8, 2013 #4 Posted January 8, 2013 To me, it did not sound like the Venture was revving very high. RandyA
SilvrT Posted January 8, 2013 #5 Posted January 8, 2013 To me, it did not sound like the Venture was revving very high. RandyA ... and Hondas are so quiet nobody could tell LOL
Eck Posted January 8, 2013 #6 Posted January 8, 2013 Looks like Riderduke to me......................
star4772 Posted January 9, 2013 #7 Posted January 9, 2013 That was no race cuz there is no way a venture could keep up to a 1800 wing. It looked like neither rider new how to race the 1/4 mile. :confused24:
bongobobny Posted January 9, 2013 #8 Posted January 9, 2013 What, 2nd gen's can't lift their front wheel off the ground???
Eck Posted January 9, 2013 #9 Posted January 9, 2013 What, 2nd gen's can't lift their front wheel off the ground??? My 2nd gen did...........
Midrsv Posted January 9, 2013 Author #12 Posted January 9, 2013 I just checked the Motorcycle consumer news performance index and they list the following times: 2004 Midnight Venture - 13.58 sec@ 95.25 mph 2004 GL1800 - 12.71 sec @ 102.9 mph That seems pretty close to the video times. The GW in the video may have been a bit slow. Dennis
Marcarl Posted January 9, 2013 #13 Posted January 9, 2013 OK, somebody's got to say it,,,, where was the 1st gen??? Oh sorry,, long gone!
playboy Posted January 9, 2013 #14 Posted January 9, 2013 Anybody notice the reaction times Gw rider had 2.something the last run on vid I think the RSV guy had improved to 3. something last run but was still slow off the line. First run the RSV shifted to 4th gear way to soon can't remember top speed. Slugs or not looked like fun reminded me of the days at Greenvalley Raceway in my 69 mustang trying to bracket race.
SilvrT Posted January 9, 2013 #15 Posted January 9, 2013 OK, somebody's got to say it,,,, where was the 1st gen??? Oh sorry,, long gone! Back at the shop having it's tranny fixed....
Ventureless Posted January 9, 2013 #16 Posted January 9, 2013 Now I want to see both go up against an Electra Glide:whistling:
Riderduke Posted January 9, 2013 #17 Posted January 9, 2013 Looks like Riderduke to me...................... It was a very nice color but not me!!!!!!! The bike in the video was way too clean:rasberry::rasberry:
Yammer Dan Posted January 9, 2013 #18 Posted January 9, 2013 A 1st Gen without 2nd gear and with a rider would have spanked both of those!!
Prairiehammer Posted January 9, 2013 #19 Posted January 9, 2013 I just checked the Motorcycle consumer news performance index and they list the following times: 2004 Midnight Venture - 13.58 sec@ 95.25 mph 2004 GL1800 - 12.71 sec @ 102.9 mph That seems pretty close to the video times. The GW in the video may have been a bit slow. Dennis Cycle Magazine tested a 1986 Venture at 12.5 seconds and 104.5 mph. They tested a 1983 at 12.69 seconds and 103.92 mph. Hmmm. Either First Gens would have "spanked" the GL1800 and the Second Gen.
Eddie Posted January 9, 2013 #20 Posted January 9, 2013 Now I want to see both go up against an Electra Glide:whistling: I will take that bet , but with a Road Glide
Eddie Posted January 9, 2013 #21 Posted January 9, 2013 Dont know how many drag racers are around here but I would like to point out reaction to the lights has nothing to do with time and speed with this type of racing (sure it shows if your timimg is good off the lights without a default) . The clock starts when you pass the beam.
XV1100SE Posted January 9, 2013 #22 Posted January 9, 2013 Now I want to see both go up against an Electra Glide:whistling: What I found for specs was : Top speed 110mph 1/4-mile acceleration 14.4 secs Power65bhp Torque80ftlb Weight372kg
playboy Posted January 9, 2013 #23 Posted January 9, 2013 Dont know how many drag racers are around here but I would like to point out reaction to the lights has nothing to do with time and speed with this type of racing (sure it shows if your timimg is good off the lights without a default) . The clock starts when you pass the beam. Looks like a heads up race to me. No dial in times on the bikes but your right from light "A" to light "B" reaction time has nothing to do with it. You could sit there 15 min and still run 14 sec 1/4. Pretty sure you would have had your by then.
Brake Pad Posted January 11, 2013 #24 Posted January 11, 2013 with 500 cc less then the Wing, the Venture did outstanding
pmelah Posted January 11, 2013 #25 Posted January 11, 2013 ok for the RSV 2nd Gen i think it did fantastic considering it has a disadvantage of short 2 cyl. and not fuel injected so 4 cyl against 6 the GW is no match put FI on RSV and even with 4 cyl against 6 i think the RSV will give a GW a run for its money
