Winter projects?

Is it me or has this been a slow year for noted winter projects discussions on the forum? Since I ended up doing my winter project last summer of replacing my transmission gearset, other than a planned cleaning and checking the bike out for some loose bolts, I don't seem to have much planned.

I may try to get motivated and get my solid motor mounts made and get them replaced.

Without a heated garage, it's pretty hard to want to go out there and do anything on the bike, or the car I'm trying to restore either. My winter projects pretty well have to wait until spring. All I can do right now is dream up ideas.

 

Actually, my winter projects happen inside the house. I'm currently rebuilding an old grand piano for myself, and just last weekend hauled another free one in that I will do some work on and sell.

Down with the third day of p-monia right now, doc says no work till Monday, didn't get enuff snow to plow for money, guess I got time to work on the bike this weekend! Got the fairing off in 1 hour last week, gotta pull crash bars off to get it into my heated office to complete the engine removal for my second gear project. Too bad ya gotta get sick to get time to work on your scoot! Been laying here for 2 days shiverin' and sleepin' just thinkin I could be working on my bike! We sure do think strangely, don't we?

I've been trying to do some winter maintenance. Have to use a keroscene torpedo heater to heat the garage. Do you know how much the cost of keroscene has gone up? It's almost 4 bucks a gallon here. I'm not out there as much this winter as last. Way too expensive for the little I'm getting done. I guess I'll wait till it warms up to do the more lengthy jobs... or till I get my garage insulated. ... oh well.....

Between having cabin fever and being severely motorcycle riding depraved, darn it all, I need to ride!

i'm overloaded with winter projects.got my zx 14 tore down,getting some chrome done, mounting an air shifter,and building an extended swingarm.just put a v&h exaust on my v-star and getting some chrome done on it, new hardwood floor in the kitchen. and a few other odds and ends. pretty well booked up solid.

Speaking of Winter Projects, I ordered some additional chrome about a week ago for my 07 Midnight! They just called and it's here:dancefool:.

 

I'm leaving now to go pick it up from the dealer, then home to put it on my Bike:cool10:

Since I am a welder by trade, I think I am going to build a scoot lift. Found a neat design online @ http://www.afabonline.com/table_lift_plans.htm

and figure it shouldn't be very difficult to build. Looks like several people have built them, so we will see.

I've never built one but I do have those plans. If you haven't bought them yet, I can try to scan them and email them to you. After I got prices for the steel and other components, I found that it was cheaper for me to buy one Haven't done that yet either though.

I needed a lift for my project but did not what to dedicate the space in my garage to it. So I bought a Kendon Stand Up lift.

By the way my project is to turn an old Yamaha XS650 into a Bobber.

Well my winter project is the same as my fall. I am still working on my first 1st Gen. But my hopes are high and I am stay positive So for I have rebuilt all the brake parts. Pulled the Carbs and Cleaned. Shimmed the Valves, replaced the fork seals. Now I am pulling the Carbs again, this time to actualy rebuild them, new Diagrahms, New Decellorators, new Gaskets, new O-Rings and replace some of the Jets. I am also rebuilding the forks again, since, now they are leaking once agian. Well that pretty much sums it up...

The problem isn't the projects - have plenty of those. It's the time & space to do them. No garage, tried a tent with heater last winter - didn't go too well. Works been crazy last couple of months too. As far as stuff on the list:

 

2nd Gen:

Bleed and shoes all around

Bar Risers

1st Gen:

Some Randya-like side panel work

Mount trailer hitch

GPS mount

That's more than I can cover in the cold before spring. I need to figure a way to get the 2nd gen done before Americade & Maint day.
