I have a fairly warped sense of humor but your comment touched a little too close to home, I don't mind the picking on each other but kids, parents and the military are off limits in my book. Joe,

I apologize to you and anybody else if you/they were offended. I'll go back to my corner now.

Did a search on specs.... best I could find are :

1984 XVZ 1200 (http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_xvz1200td_l.htm)

97hp @7000 rpm (88.6hp @ rear tire)

max torque - 10.4 kg-m @ 5000 rpm

standing 1/4 mile - 12.6 sec / 165.0 km/h

top speed - 198.7 km/h

2001/2012 XVZ 1300 (http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_r.s.t%20venture%20s%2012.htm and http://motoprofi.com/motospecspictures/yamaha/xvz_1300_tf_royal_star_venture-2001.html and http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikereviews/searchresults/Bike-Reviews/Yamaha/Yamaha-XVZ1300A-Royal-Star-1996-2001-/

95.00 HP (69.3 kW) at 6000 RPM

max torque - 119.00 Nm (87.5 ft*lbs) at 4500 RPM, 111.8 Nm @ 3500 rpm

standing 1/4 mile - 15.1 sec

0-100km/hr - 5.8 seconds (0-60mph 5.5 seconds)

top speed 185 km/h

Did another search and majority of the articles on 2nd Gens are for accessories, chrome, personalization. Same search on 1st Gens are "looking for parts", "worn out", "cracks".

Granted from the specs that the 1st Gen was faster... but I've said it before and I'll say it again.... at least my bike was made in this millenium !!!!

Yup just goes to show, even an honest 2nd gen has to agree with the thread title.:whistling:

Well, I've owned and ridden both,,,,

If'n you wanna pick up the front wheel (right Gil??!), beat anything on the road (right Muffinman??!), ride 4 gears with the front end up in the air (right Skydoc??!) and have the beginnings of the VMax motor to play with (right Dingy??!); then you want a MKI in the garage (STILL got one for parts for ya'll!), had an 84 Red for a couple of years and fun....

BUT,

If'n you wanna ride reclined with your feet out front; plenty of room, armrests, highway pegs and good bling for the backseat rider; having fun just relaxin' whilst you're ridin' (cassette player right in front of ya!), miles of ridin' in front of ya (right Condor!) and just oil changes and rear-end greasin' to do during the year,,,,,

I guess you have good things to mention with both....

Oh yeah, got proof the 2nd Gen will help ya hit, carry 75' down the road and dispose of an 8 point buck while savin' your a**!

Posted
But with a 1st gen you could have crossed that spot sooner and the buck might have crossed the road behind you............just sayin...........

IF you were racin' and not just ridin' to work.....:depressed:

Posted

These are touring bikes... :confused24:

If I had wanted the fastest production motorcycle, I would have bought a 99-01 BUSA and... saved at least $5K right out of the box...

the deer would have crossed a day later... HA!

Yeah.....with a first gen you could have hit the 400 lb 'BIG DADDY" who had already crossed the road few moments earlier, and who was being followed by the little buck.........just saying.......

With the saying "new and improved" Yamaha got it 50% right, 2nd Gens are newer!!!

Big plans starting as we speak and more chrome isnt in the plan (yet) but I can tell you that I hope you have that cookie of a bike you call brown surar there at MD . :)

You can borrow my :mytruck: to help you get it there .:rotf:

You know I have to watch everything I say around my customers it gets old . I like to have some harmless fun around here. Just dont talk about shrimps on touring bikes because that really gets them going.

Still...

1st Gen 1/4 mile at 12.6 sec / 165.0 km/h (102.5 mph), top speed - 198.7 km/h (123.47 mph)...

2nd Gen 1/4 mile at 13.58 sec / 95.25 mph (153.3 km/h), top speed 110 mph (177.03 km/h)

I'll give that based on specs the 1st Gen was faster...

Question is.... do you want an old bike that needs constant up keep if you can find parts, or a newer bike that you just ride ?

Y'all crack me up

:hihi:

I have NEVER sold a 1st gen DRIVER on a 2nd gen, I sat their significant other on the back of a G2 and they were the ones that told the 1st gen DRIVER to get a G2 because they were more comfortable for them.

If you aren't worried about riding and have time to tinker, a 1st gen is a great machine to play with. I have owned 6 1st gens and 4 2nd gens, Lonna wont ride on the 1st gen anymore because it's not as comfortable for her as the G2's

I agree with Capt. if I wanted to go fast and kill myself a Busa or Vmax would be what I owned. Y'all have to hold onto something, so I'll just sit back and keep laughing at all the banter :sign20:

Well I have been laughing at this whole thread. So here is my two cents. I had a 1 Gen in the shop, took one ride on it, didn't like the seat height or the foot position on it so I sent it to Georgia. I have an 85 Honda Sabre 1100, an 06 Vulkin 900 and a GL 1500 Goldwing and my favorite an 03 RSMV. So in saying I would ride the RSV to my mail box and back before even thinking about the others. Now back to the chatter.

Take a look at the bottom of the Watering Hole forum page. 571 replies to the poll. Total of 70% of the respondents from this site are 51 years or older.

It is understandable that the vast majority is interested in a comfortable cruiser.

I will not include myself or Yammer Dan in that group. The thrill of a brisk ride is still enjoyable to us.

There are two types of Motorcycle owners...those who have 1st Gens...and those who wish they had 1st Gens... :sun:

Dan, maybe we should back off on teasing the 2nd Genners.... it's kinda like teasing the kids on the short bus.... :rasberry:

P.S. Maybe we shoulda bought the 2nd Genners a sense of humor for CHRISTmas...

But they are so SLOW and EASY!!:innocent:

I was in my corner being nice......

Don't need to it will break down soon enough and we can pass while you are trying to find parts,

You went a little far with this I have several friends that their kids ride the short bus and they are some of the brightest kids I know they just happen to have challenges in their lives and to imply that they are mentally challenged goes too far. I do not believe that this comment was called for and it seems to me if you can not poke fun without lashing out at other groups outside of our you should not post at all.

I have a fairly warped sense of humor but your comment touched a little too close to home, I don't mind the picking on each other but kids, parents and the military are off limits in my book. Lighthearted is fine but I think you get a little carried away at times, If you wold like to chat give me a shout probably should not have expressed my comments here too much of a downer.

ok Joe this is home for me as i am one of those short bus riders as for KIC comment i take no offense to it if anyone has a right it should be me i did not graduate with a diploma i got a certificate of completion of the 12th grade i am slow learning but its comments and jokes that are made that push me to be better Joe i ask you to be nice and have a sense of hummer i do thank you for thinking about us. now on a lighter note what can i trade a wrecked 2nd gen in for i dont need a 1st gen i already got one i cant ride for 6+ months
