jfoster Posted January 5, 2013 #26 Posted January 5, 2013 Actually it is the other way around, The lower the octane the more likely you are to "blow the heads off" I used to put leftover 134 octane race gas in my snow blower, lawn mower, truck, bike, and everything else just to use it up at the end of the season. unless an engine is designed and set up to run on the high octane you will actually get LESS performance out of it. I guess I never thought of it. 100LL Aviation gas would be great for winter storage. Is aviation fuel leaded? Which is bad for catalytic convertors?

Bvinson Posted January 5, 2013 #28 Posted January 5, 2013 Is aviation fuel leaded? Which is bad for catalytic convertors? Yes it is leaded, in my post above I made a warning point about use with converters. Some Harleys have converters in the exhaust pipes. I don't know if it is just the California models but I bought a set off ebay that were take offs from the dealership. If you looked in the pipe you could see the converter.
djh3 Posted January 17, 2013 #29 Posted January 17, 2013 Aviation fuel is listed as 100 or 110 LL most times. Meaning its "low lead". Has been for lots of years. Not certian what the content is but on non-cat stuff your fine. I would hesitate in putting it into anything with a cat. I ran the stuff in race cars for years, and it smells great to.
dynodon Posted January 17, 2013 #30 Posted January 17, 2013 My security software, Viper, says the pure-gas.org site in infected with harmful software, anyone else go there, and did you have problems?
Guest tx2sturgis Posted January 17, 2013 #31 Posted January 17, 2013 My security software, Viper, says the pure-gas.org site in infected with harmful software, anyone else go there, and did you have problems? Wow! If this is true, I didnt know that when I posted it. I run Linux and Apple OS and no warnings popped up, and nothing bad has happened. If there is a legitimate Windows threat, maybe they will fix it. Did anyone else have a problem?
Flyinfool Posted January 17, 2013 #32 Posted January 17, 2013 I'm running XP Pro and Fire Fox on 2 different computers and neither of them popped anything up. I tried back when this thread started and again just now. I have that site bookmarked.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted January 20, 2013 #33 Posted January 20, 2013 Based on the pure-gas website, I rolled my Ural into Interstate Fuel in Amarillo, and proceeded to install the 'good-stuff':
GaryZ Posted January 21, 2013 #34 Posted January 21, 2013 I am pleased to say that all new 7-11 stations being built around Oklahoma City offer 87 octane E10, 87 octane 100%, 89 octane 100%, and 91 octane 100% gas as well as diesel. The cool thing is the 87/100% is only 3 cents more than the E10! Right now the 87/100% is selling for $3.02/gallon . . .
