dozer520 Posted January 2, 2013 #1 Posted January 2, 2013 i have a very nice passenger backrest and the passenger arm rests from my 87 venture ( the ones that mount in the trunk) . i believe the recling parts are all with it as well... i'd like to donate these to someone's cause. they are the brown vinyl ones. pm me if interested. i'd just want a few bucks to cover the shipping. i wanted black and got these and it wasn't worth returning them.

KIC Posted January 5, 2013 #4 Posted January 5, 2013 If he doesn't take them I will.. my wife would love them. Dahgimp, I don't know if the CDI off an 84 would work on an 87. If anybody could answer that I could look and see if there is one on either of my parts bikes.
dahgimp Posted January 5, 2013 #5 Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) man if I could get a CDI from you that would be great I've got a few bucks just don't kill me on it but that is the last part I need:cool10::bighug:480-699-4986 call for Gary Edited January 5, 2013 by dahgimp to contact each other
bongobobny Posted January 5, 2013 #6 Posted January 5, 2013 Yes, a TCI from an '84 will work on an '87 but the response curve is slightly different on the MK2. There is not a significant enough difference to notice though. The '83 is the only year that will not work with any other year. The later MK2 went to a single pickup coil in 1990 I believe, and won't work with the dual pickup versions...
KIC Posted January 5, 2013 #7 Posted January 5, 2013 Okay..here's the deal... I am not a mechanical genius. So.. if I know exactly where the CDI is located on the 84 and what it takes to get it off... I will go over and look at my two 84's and pull one or both. I will give you both (if they are on the bikes) and you can see if they work. I will also be working in the San Tan Valley area all week next week so we could meet up and drop it off. I checked the 2013 pricing index and it states that they are free until February 22nd, 2014.
dahgimp Posted January 5, 2013 #8 Posted January 5, 2013 the Cdi is located under the battery box on the 87 the battery box has one 10mm bolt holding it on then there is a metal brace under the box you have to take off two more 10mm bolts then you go in from both sides of the bike above the carbs there is two bolts on each side of the bike that takes a bracket off that holds the four coils and the CDI you have to unscrue the four coil wires and unclip four electrical connecters and two connecters off the CDI then take the unit out of the bike turn it over and take two screws out and that is it that takes it off the bike I really want to thank you and this web sight I haven't had good people like this help me out like this in a long time my number is 480-699-4986 If I can return the favor just yell.................
Yammer Dan Posted January 5, 2013 #9 Posted January 5, 2013 Those things are getting very hard to come by. Loaned my spare out at Ashville 3 yrs ago. Ain't heard from him . Saveing up bucks for dingy's is best way to go.
KIC Posted January 6, 2013 #10 Posted January 6, 2013 I will try to go across town to my dad's tomorrow afternoon. I pretty sure at least one of the parts bikes has the coils and everything still on it. I will see if I can get it pulled.
bongobobny Posted January 6, 2013 #11 Posted January 6, 2013 Hey 'gimp you're going to find out we are more than a website, we are a big family! When and where did you serve? I'm a Viet Nam vet myself...
KIC Posted January 7, 2013 #12 Posted January 7, 2013 Checked out the bikes today. The one that has the coils on it does not have the CDI still on it. Looks like it was salvaged before I got the bike(s). Sorry, I tried. If you need anything else let me know and I will see if I got it.
dahgimp Posted January 8, 2013 #13 Posted January 8, 2013 I served from 70 to 77 I served in nam but most of my time I was in Europe playing on the navy golf team.............but I still need a CDI thanks where did you serve your time
