mark reed Posted February 1, 2008 #1 Posted February 1, 2008 On an 83 xvz1200.Wandering how long water pump seal last.I replaced mine about eight or nine years ago.It wasnt leaking them.I had just bought the bike and gave it a good going through.
kantornado Posted February 1, 2008 #2 Posted February 1, 2008 I can not answer the question. But my seal started to leak in the winter months about the 16th year I owned my 83. Not much and only left a small puddle about a inch in diameter. When I started the engine up and ran her in the spring through the summer until the next storage time it never leaked. It would leak a little in the winter and I never had a problem with it leaking any other time. I figured if I was stored at 25 below or more I might leak a little too!!!!:rotf::rotf:..........................................Ron

I would change it when it leaked, as it seems to just drip when it first starts. Unless you are worried about it starting to leak at an inappropriate time, change it now. Brad
Doug Hare Posted February 1, 2008 #4 Posted February 1, 2008 I would not replace the water pump seal unless it was leaking. Sometimes taking something apart and rebuilding it for no apparent reason creates more problems than it solves.
