FROG MAN Posted February 10, 2008 Author #26 Posted February 10, 2008 I ride on Sundays most of the time. I'm really looking forward to that landscaping project. No doubt all of our plans will be a 10 year project but hey. Do a little now and then and it will all come together. Camping, grilling out, sitting around the fire pit, and riding. Sounds like a great summer to me.
MamaMo Posted February 18, 2008 #27 Posted February 18, 2008 While I was at work today Froggy started on the landscaping.:cool10::cool10:He also had his brother cut down a walnut tree just above where my firepit is going.:cool10:Already bought my first two rows worth of the blocks will picking up more soon just waiting for the weather to break. Pics 1. This summer before starting project 2. This evening after I got home from work looking up from road 3. Looking at road from old house 4. A pic from the overlook at the Falls this winter look above the Falls on the right side and you can see the old house where the property is. Love the pic of the Falls, the ice circle.
FROG MAN Posted March 15, 2008 Author #28 Posted March 15, 2008 Done a little more with the fence today. I told Mamamo she didn't marry no farmer. So whats wrong with a post hole digger that has a motor? The kids helped and Mamamo planted some rose bushes. I might get finished soon.
Freebird Posted March 15, 2008 #29 Posted March 15, 2008 I like that fence. Did you buy the posts and rails or are you making it all?
FROG MAN Posted March 15, 2008 Author #30 Posted March 15, 2008 I bought those from WV split rail. Check out there website. These are on special for almost half price. I got the Locust two hole post with the untreated 8 ft rails.http://www.wvsr.com/
hipshot Posted March 16, 2008 #31 Posted March 16, 2008 hey hoppy! your labors are slowly taking shape! looks great! won't be long, and you will have a real "showplace". got up to 90* here, this afternoon, and i had to work half a day. couldn't ride anyhow, bikes down waitin' on parts! keep up the great work, just don't over do it! just jt
FROG MAN Posted March 16, 2008 Author #32 Posted March 16, 2008 Thanks John I work in the spring and fall. Hot weather just sucks the energy out of me. Come July-September its ice tea, camping, and scooter riding only. I should get the fence, fire pit, electric pole and entrance done by May 1st. I might start clearing some scruff trees out for a little campfire wood. Then it's take a few months off and enjoy life.
Freebird Posted March 16, 2008 #33 Posted March 16, 2008 Thanks for the link to the website. Nice fencing. I may have to make a trip to WV with a trailer pretty soon.
Condor Posted March 16, 2008 #34 Posted March 16, 2008 Once upon a time, I had planned to go with one of these log homes. At the time, I lived about 40 miles from their headquarters. They have a community of their homes there and some of them were fantastic. http://satterwhite-log-homes.com/ Still toying with the idea of doing the same thing Don. We have a 1.5 acre view lot up in the foothills that a log home would be perfect on. http://www.lindal.com/homes/techcenter/homebuildingsystems/lindallog.cfm
FROG MAN Posted March 16, 2008 Author #35 Posted March 16, 2008 Don 1 bundle of two hole locust 49pc and 1 bundle of 8 ft rails 100pc was a decent load for my 16 ft trailer. Not so much weight as volume. They only sell in bundles of the above. Normally will not sell to the public but if you pickup your product at their yard they will take cash or local check. The above combo should do 375 ft of fence.
MamaMo Posted March 21, 2008 #36 Posted March 21, 2008 The Split Rail Fence is done.:cool10::cool10:Froggy Finished the fence last Sunday. Got most of the roses planted need about 5 more bushes than they will be all done. Transplanted daffodils that was growing in the yard in different areas to in front of some of the posts in front of the fence. All last weekend. Now for Today. Went and got gravel and sand for the fire pit. Dug the hole. Not a easy one either rocks and roots. Filled with gravel for a couple of inches than put sand on top. Laid down the first row of blocks Leveled then added the second row. Will be going and picking up the rest of the blocks tomorrow. Oh and had the first of many picnic lunches at the new place. I had picked up in town hot dogs chips pop and a candy bar. So on this Good Friday it was a good day. Oh and the Shift Supervisor was Venture.
MamaMo Posted March 22, 2008 #38 Posted March 22, 2008 Okay finished the Firepit today. We found out the if you buy block from to different Lowes that it may not be made in the same place. Bought from two different Lowes and got two different shades of Red and Charcoal so we alterated the rows. Think it still come out alright. Can't wait for warm weather so I can have a fire and try it out. Planted 5 more roses with one to go that I have to order. Planning on ordering the Betty Boop rose of course.
cecdoo Posted March 22, 2008 #39 Posted March 22, 2008 The place is looking great, I think gerald needs a break though:cool10: craig
FROG MAN Posted March 22, 2008 Author #40 Posted March 22, 2008 Like I said in another thread. I got some time coming just me and the 84. Is that the shady lady in my rear view?
autopilot Posted March 23, 2008 #41 Posted March 23, 2008 Ditto on likin the fence! I thought about some of that on sides & front of my place. My place is flat as a frypan though. Hill makes a big difference, looks better. You asked for input and I'm nothing if not opinionated, so...... What, if anything are you planning to do in front of the fencing and down the hill to the ditch line by the road? I noticed in one of the pics, that there was some erosion. It's a lot of footage and labor for rock/rubble (rip/rap) and probably a fair expense for material, but it would be a more or less permanent fix and it would be easy to maintain..Big jug of roundup! (you could also put in some well placed hardy, rock garden type plantings to dress it up) Alternately, a low ground cover (phlox/an ivy/creeping something or other with or without flowers) or a low habit evergreen (stinky, but effective & low maintenance). Just don't get kudzu anywhere near the place or pampas grass (if it grows there) If they get in, you'll never get rid of them. (After a year with kudzu, we'd have to send in the Nat'l Guard to find you and the house!) That's my input folks, for what it's worth.
FROG MAN Posted March 30, 2008 Author #42 Posted March 30, 2008 Phlox sounds like a idea for that road bank. Hidden under that bank is a hand layed rock wall that is now covered with topsoil. I'll sow or plant something there soon before those april/may showers come. On another matter out behind the old house at the corner property line is a small low gap. This is not noticeable from the road but a perfect spot for my plans. A 0-20 yd home defense pistol range. It has a nice back stop hillside area just needs a few rocks removed and some side barriers built. We want to practice point shooting with the autoloaders and smooth bore shotgun shooting from the hip. No time to find the sights when intruders are coming in with low lights at night.

FROG MAN Posted March 30, 2008 Author #44 Posted March 30, 2008 Hipshot, plan A is and always has been: Be a good neighbor and if at all possible live peaceably with all men. Plan B is for those who choose not to abide by plan A and try their luck. I believe in the right to keep and bear but hope I never have to use.Knowing how to use is mandatory to having home protection firearms. Sad we live in a time when intruders will do anything to support there drug habits. I plan on having some first line deturrents in place. If their stupid enough to keep coming Plan B will work.
Squeeze Posted March 30, 2008 #45 Posted March 30, 2008 Good point is also, if you start some shooting in your own Yard, somebody may notice that and be warned right off ...
FROG MAN Posted March 30, 2008 Author #46 Posted March 30, 2008 Squeeze, Thats the plan. All these breaking and enterings going on in my community and for some strange reason nobody seen anything. The truth of the matter is my community knows exactly who is guilty but won't say. There protecting family members. They won't even rat on someone harboring a wanted felon or a local meth lab because they got something to hide themselves. The only people complaining are those with nothing to hide. When I start a little shooting on the weekends everyone passing by will know, and those momma's will warn there babies to stay away with there after hours activities.
Squeeze Posted March 30, 2008 #47 Posted March 30, 2008 Hopefully your Plan works out. I really don't want to read 'They broke my Garage and all my Scoots are gone'. The stealing of Mamamo's Rose Bush is sad enough, but i go trough this every Year. My Wife is so much into planting and Garden and every Year is Stuff gone. They stole fresh planted Roses from my Company Property and even the Grave of my Parents was robbed from the Plants my Wife had set up. Twice the Snails, twice robbed. Sick but you can't help it. Well Plants aren't cheap and if someone is really into this, it's a Loss similar to loose a Scoot or a Car. Not to think about breaking in someones Home, steal everything with even minor Value and leave a big Mess behind. At least you're able to protect yourself and your Property. In Germany only Thing you can do is throwing your Cellphone or Cordless at these Bangers after you called 911.... Latest update on Weapon's Laws is, they forbid carrying my Knife, a single hand opening Folder, just because you can open it with Thumb or Index Finger. A standard folding Knife is allowed when the Blade is under 5 Inches long.
Squeeze Posted March 31, 2008 #48 Posted March 31, 2008 Hey Froggie, regarding you asked Hipshot about his shooting, i stumbled right upon something for ya. Maybe you could arrange some Lessons from this Guy ? http://www.2xfun.de/embed1.php?file=8326
FROG MAN Posted March 31, 2008 Author #49 Posted March 31, 2008 Squeeze thats fast. I bet he rides a first gen to.:rotf::rotf:
MamaMo Posted April 27, 2008 #50 Posted April 27, 2008 New Update. Worked last weekend and this weekend 1/2 days on the new Property. I have Planted 5 Hostas plants 5 double blue rose of sharons and a pine tree (Josiah's) Added mulch around most of the posts and the roses. Put a piece of carpet in the one bedroom and a area rug in the Living room. Set the dining table up that was my Grandma's old one. Set the bed up for us in the bedroom. Took down some games. Could now stay down there if we wanted. But FrogMans biggest job was the Electric Pole. It is now Set and ready to start installing the electric box and hook up.:sign woo hoo:Planning on a temp service into the old house. And Ventures job was supervisor.
