FROG MAN Posted May 6, 2008 Author #51 Posted May 6, 2008 I got the service entrance finished Sunday. The Electrical inspector passed the inspection today so hopefully by the weekend the power company will have us hooked up. I hope to get the 84 out and take it to the camp this weekend. Now to install the satellite dish and cell phone antenna. If MamaMo could find that new Hammock she bought I know a couple shade trees needing something to do. I might leave the kids at home and just take MamaMo camping.:whistling: :cool10:
FROG MAN Posted November 2, 2008 Author #52 Posted November 2, 2008 We been camping in the old house on weekends for about 6 months. I got a small wood burner put in the kitchen where the wood cook stove use to be. This keeps the kitchen and master bedroom a toasty 80 degrees on those 30 degree nights. With Ramona's Thyroid problems she still freezes. The living room stays a comfortable 65 - 70. Current economic conditions may have the old house standing another 6-10 years or more.I'm not going to tear it down until plan B comes together I just done a preliminary cost estimate for a new log home complete with water, septic, land, etc for $204,000. HOLY COW time to do some major trimming to this project. That old house has stood for over 100 years. Maybe I'll just camp til I die who knows?Where is my powerball tickets.
FROG MAN Posted March 29, 2009 Author #53 Posted March 29, 2009 I don't like defeat so I'm not giving up. This economy dealt a serious blow to my retirement and house plans but were going forward. Were not going into debt but this dream will stay alive. In two weeks were meeting with a designer to draw up our blueprints and finalize our plans.I'm going to put up a log home shell and have a roofing party.Once it is under roof then it is a slow do it yourself completion job which may take several years. It's hard to wait but patience will bring success. I could go to the bank and borrow the money and start now but thats not the plan. I'm 50 and a 20-25 year mortgage at my age just doesn't feel right.Who wants to give the bank all that interest anyway. Were going to pay down debt and save our money. With a few good investments along the way in 4-5 years I can pay cash for a shell and get it under roof. Ramona is looking forward to buying and storing items for the new house.Good clearance deals can be found on windows, doors, etc if we just keep our eyes open and look around. We have enough wood working tools to build some of the furniture such as a log bed frames, night stands and who knows what else she may want.We want a rustic looking cabin and nothing fancy so home made furniture will fit right in. Until it's time to tear the old house down were busy with outside projects. I planted 6 fruit trees this month and going to cut and trim some trees over easter break.Wish us luck this dream will stay alive.
