RedRider Posted January 31, 2008 #1 Posted January 31, 2008 I am looking at purchasing a bike in Montgomery, AL. It is virtually new - per the owners description. However, before I send a significant chunk of money to the owner, I would like to lay eyes on it. And since I am still snowbound in frigid Wisconsin, I was wondering if there is a set of surrogate eyes in AL that could help me out. I don't even need it to be ridden, although that would be OK also. Just want to know if it is as described. Is there someone who would be willing to help me out? Thanks, RR And, no, this is not replacing my beautiful RSV. It is an addition to the stable.
Tnventurer Posted January 31, 2008 #2 Posted January 31, 2008 I think Eck is in that neck of the woods.....Fred
Eck Posted January 31, 2008 #3 Posted January 31, 2008 I think Eck is in that neck of the woods.....Fred Sorry, but I will not go look at another bike...... for anyone..but myself. Please forgive me for stateing that so strongly, but count me out. Let me explain my reasoning... I did this once before and found I was in one hell of a pickle..and I refuse to be in that position again for anyone. No matter how you look at it, it ends up like this: If I say the sellers bike is not worth what he is asking, then I get the selling member mad at me.. If I say the selling members bike IS worth the asking price, and the buyer purchase's it, and later finds it was not worth the asking price, then I have the buyer mad at me.. I'm really not interested in making folks mad at me... I feel that is why cannon, casio, sony, sharp, Nikon, Minolta, just to name a few, came out with cameras..digital camers, fine close up prints, etc... They say "Photos" speek a thousand words. If I looked at the bike, I would not come close to a thousand words in explaining what I think... Photos, which can be emailed between buyer & seller, works better in the end. The final responsinbility will always fall on the buyer to accept.. or reject.. what he see's in the photo's..and it will never fall on some one else who was just trying to be a help..
RedRider Posted January 31, 2008 Author #4 Posted January 31, 2008 Eck, No problem. I understand the caution. For anyone else, all I am looking for is whether the bike is in 'like-new' condition. Aka: not dropped, dented, bent, broken. I am looking at a 2008 Kawasaki KLR650. Assuming it is not obviously damaged, I will trust that it works and is worth what the guy is asking. RR
yamahamer Posted January 31, 2008 #5 Posted January 31, 2008 I Plan On Trying To Ride Saturday And If My Shoulder Is Healed Enough I might Ride Down For You. You Can Pm Me The Info But Like I Said It's A Maybe I Have Not Rode Since My Car Wreck But I'm Ready To Try.
Eck Posted January 31, 2008 #6 Posted January 31, 2008 Eck, No problem. I understand the caution. Thanks for your understand, and I am truely sorry I feel this way .. However RedRider, I have a thought that might be of benifit to you on this bike.. Ask the seller to bring the bike here: To our M&E Lunch at the SMOKEHOUSE BBQ just north of Montgomery on Saturday Feb 23rd.. There will be a BUNCH of us at the resturant at 12 noon, and everyone can look at it for you. A group opinion..now that would be an opinion.....Here's a map to Smokehouse BBQ in Millbrook, Al. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...kehousebbq.jpg
RedRider Posted January 31, 2008 Author #8 Posted January 31, 2008 Eck, Great idea. I will chat with the owner and let him know. When we were talking a little while ago, he did mention that he will ride it somewhere close if it would be helpful. However, if we are able to get someone to see this bike sooner, it may be nice for the buyer - since I am reluctant to send his money until it is seen. I'll let you know. Thanks, RR
RedRider Posted February 1, 2008 Author #9 Posted February 1, 2008 Bump for some help. If possible, I would like to get someone to glance at this bike before the M&E. I have sent a couple of PMs to folks in the Montgomery area but haven't had any luck. I know this is an imposition, but I need some long distance assistance to get this deal done. Thanks for your consideration. RR
BradT Posted February 1, 2008 #10 Posted February 1, 2008 If I say the selling members bike IS worth the asking price, and the buyer purchase's it, and later finds it was not worth the asking price, then I have the buyer mad at me.. I'm really not interested in making folks mad at me... Could not agree more. The opinion of wether it is worth it or not is always up to the person spending the money. I personally may not care about a certain scratch or two, but the buyer may not have the same opinion. Just remember when purchasing a used bike, it will not be perfect as it is Used. Brad
rsstar Posted February 1, 2008 #11 Posted February 1, 2008 Redrider, pm me with the info. My son lives in Montgomery. He MIGHT be able to look at the bike.
RedRider Posted February 2, 2008 Author #12 Posted February 2, 2008 Donald (Tazmocycle) stopped by the owner's place this morning and confirmed the KLR650 is as advertised. Thank you very much for your help Don. I will post pics once the bike makes it north. My cousin will be picking it up at the beginning of March and taking it to Charleston, SC. My family will be in Charleston at the end of March for his wedding and I will pick it up then. Depending on the weather, I may ride it back - but likely will trailer it. Don't know how a 1000 mile run on a stock seat will work out. Thanks again Don. RR
