I have a question for the brethren, it's about my Harley. As some of you know I have a '79 FLH Electra Glide that I'm working on getting back on the road.

 

I want to install an oil pressure gauge onto it, it had a cheap one, with the plastic compression fitting tubing. I want to put a good quality oil filled gauge that will stand up to the vibrator. I also want to use a braided stainless line from the oil pump up to the gauge which will fit up in the fairing or on the handle bars.

 

If y'all have some links or personal experience I'd love to hear from you. I have 2, 4 day weekends coming up for Christmas and New Years and 1 of those weekends are going to be spent doing nothing but working on my Harley....Thanks in advance for your help with this :thumbsup2:

My 2K Ultra came with an oil pressure gauge and idiot light so I never needed to buy one, but I found these on a quick search:

You probably know this, but your HD Evo motor should already have a functioning oil pressure light...maybe it doesnt so a gauge would be a good idea. :happy34:

Thanks for the link Brian, thats just what I'm looking for. A nice simple gauge thats liquid filled. My '79 is a Shovelhead, and is about as old school as they come. No front brake lever switch for the brake light, the rear petal is all that controls that. It didn't have an oil light, the PO had a gauge, but I didn't really care for it and it was the cheap plastic tubing type you can get at any autoparts store.

 

Now to find a SS braided line to hook it all up...Thanks again :thumbsup2:

Yeah the Evos came out in the early 80s...but I was reading that discription on that page where it said they work on Evos and Twinkies and I just zoned on 'Evo'...anyway...maybe it will work.

on my old Shovelheads I just installed the gauge in the rear cylinder exhaust rocker shaft with a fitting like this

Don't be alarmed when the engine is hot and at an idle when it shows no pressure. as long as you have good oil pressure when you first fire it up. Another thing to doo is to eliminate the oil crossover line from the front to rear cylinder rocker box and run lines directly to each cylinder, as when you first start the bike the oil goes from the rear cylinder exhaust rocker shaft to the rear intake then the front intake and finally to the front exhaust.
