bongobobny Posted December 9, 2012 #1 Posted December 9, 2012 Amy just stopped over to give us the news. Tom is basically OK but in the hospital for a day or two. They were stopped to make a left turn and got rear ended by some younger guy doing 50mph in a 40. This happened around 7PM last night. Tom was complaining about chest pains after the accident, probably from the seat belt, but they put him in the CCU at Buffalo General Hospital. The force of the impact broke both seats and Tom literally bent the headrest brackets with his head. Amy thinks thehy will total her new car. If anybody wants to call Tom, or if you locals want to visit, he is in Room 415 and the phone number is (716) 859-6415.
Flyinfool Posted December 9, 2012 #2 Posted December 9, 2012 Glad he was in the cage and not on the bike. Hope he heals quick.
Barrycuda Posted December 9, 2012 #3 Posted December 9, 2012 Don't know him, however wanted to wish him a speedy recovery and to wish he and his family happy holidays.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted December 9, 2012 #4 Posted December 9, 2012 I wish that they HAD been on the bike that day. Because they would have been somewhere else and most likely would not have been involved with this guy, since bikes normally travel at different rates than cars do. But thoughts are with them and speedy recoveries all.

BuddyRich Posted December 10, 2012 #16 Posted December 10, 2012 I'd guess its totaled. The buckling in the left rear roof pillar means its all bent up...
Marcarl Posted December 10, 2012 #17 Posted December 10, 2012 Feeling for both of you, and will pray that healing will take place real quick. Thanks for the post, it helps to keep us together as a family.
Carbon_One Posted December 10, 2012 #19 Posted December 10, 2012 Hate reading posts like this but I am also glad they were in the car. Getting hit at 50 mph while stopped is never a good outcome. On a bike in the same situation it may will have been a matter of life or death. Good luck healing Tom and Amy. Larry
skydoc_17 Posted December 10, 2012 #20 Posted December 10, 2012 Hey Tom and Amy, Both Jean and I are glad you were not injured worse! Prayers sent for a speedy recovery. Thanks for the post Bobby. Earl and Jean
gunboat Posted December 10, 2012 #21 Posted December 10, 2012 thanks for the info and the updates. i'am so glad ya'll are ok. better to be in the hospital for observations. but nothing beats being at home. best reguards you two. don c.
Trader Posted December 10, 2012 #22 Posted December 10, 2012 From the pictures the guy must have been able to get slowed down. That's I would think it would be a lot worse if it was a 50 mph impact. I remember taking an test ride on a "seat belt sled". It was an incline roller coaster where you got into a car seat and slid about 6-8 feet along a track at about a 35 degree angle. You only got up to about 5 Mph and stopped dead at the bottom. WHAT A JOLT!!!!! Just shows it doesn't really take a lot to really shake you up! Glad to hear everyone is relatively OK.
Squidley Posted December 10, 2012 #23 Posted December 10, 2012 If they do decide to fix your car, make sure you get a lifetime warranty with the repairs. Doors will tend to start leaking and not close right, the electronics on the car are what I would really be concerned with. Once they get jarred like that, their life expectancy goes down dramatically. Glad y'all are telling us the story....all the best to you both.
darthandy Posted December 10, 2012 #24 Posted December 10, 2012 Sorry to hear about the accident but glad to see it wasn't too bad. Heal fast and and well. Bet that young guy was on his cell phone! Andy
sarges46 Posted December 10, 2012 #25 Posted December 10, 2012 Wow that sucks! I remember that car getting the striping done. We are wishing nothing but the best for Tom. Hope he's feeling better and home soon!
