That sucks. But that's is the way it is anymore. Everywhere. The company I used to work for had no policy against carrying a gun into the stores as long as it was not an employee doing it. The store had been robbed 4 times, three of them by armed persons while I was there. There were several of us that had CCW permits and training and were warned not to carry on the property when the issue was brought up.

I'm not saying it's a need to draw and fire situation but it damn sure lets the bad boys know some one else is in position to defend themselves. Even our hired security guards and off duty LEO's hired to protect the store were not allowed to be armed. Made no sense to me.

I'm sure someone will step up and hire this guy before long. He showed a lot of loyalty to the company and his friend.

This very common with retail businesses. The sad part is if an employee hurts a robber or someone else during the course of events, the business is legally liable and can be sued. These policies were put in place not so much to protect employees and customers, rather to limit the possibility of the lawsuits. If a business could not be sued by a thief, and their accomplices, we wouldn't have these policies in place or enforced as much at the very least.

Hubby works at Radioshack, I'm always concerned about the evening deposits, especially this time of year. but the bike makes him look less like an employee so far. I'll be glad when he's no longer in retail. When I did retail and did store deposits my parents escorted me to the bank while armed (the store and bank were both in a bad area) They didn't own the store, but they weren't going to allow me to go alone. Anyone in retail has my sympathies, especially with the responsibility vs pay ratio.

I also went to their main page and left a comment about how I felt about doing this to anyone and especially to a Veteran. Shame on them. I am telling everyone I know. We should all voice our opinions about this. Here is the link to leave a message for Auto Zone.

Instead of screaming at the companies about a policy change, contact lawmakers to close loopholes in laws that give criminals and their accomplices, and family members the ability to to sue a business they entered to pursue a criminal action. Your actions in telling lawmakers what needs to be done will not only help corporations change policies, but protect small business owners that are more likely to face the situation on a more personal level.

Just had Philip Cleave from Virginia Defense League at our Monthly Gun Club Meeting last night and told us about this.

The are arranging a Protest at the AutoZone and he has already contacted their corporate offices.

I'm a member of this "Gun Rights" group here in the Old Commonwealth.

Sorry this crap happened in my home state, one of the three most conservative gun law states in the union.

Utah, Florida, Virginia....

Unfortunatly, the lawsuits are the main reason. Personally I would not care. If I worked for a company with a no gun policy, I would still carry. Yes the consequence would be employment termination, but I say that would be preferable to being shot.

I would carry with a http://www.smartcarry.com/ holster.

It's undetectable.

There is a saying that concealed carry permit holders have:

"Its better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6"!

I will definitely not be shopping there anymore:no-no-no::no-no-no::no-no-no:, and I use them for most all my parts purchases, O Reily, Advantange, and many others out there that I will use now:thumbsup2::thumbsup2:. Shame on AZ for doing the wrong thing when and employee does the right thing. I guess if he would have stayed outside the front door he wouldnt have been fired?? I cant believe where we are headed with people like this leading companies and other important things and places!!!!!!!

I can't wait to see what they have to say. I am not sure about AA's Gun Rule.

Every work place that I know of (except for the gun shop) has a no gun policy for its employees.

But then there is still the question of how that policy is enforced under special conditions.

I have never seen any zero tolerance policy for anything that actually worked as intended.

Hey Long Tail,

You say Virginia is a conservative state but I don't think they recognize a concealed carry permit from Georgia.

Nope we don't nor Alabama as well. You good 'ol boys down there scare the crap outta us with your idea of a concealed carry gun

They shouldve given the guy a 10,000 dollar bonus. Then according to their policy let the guy go......for about a month. Then rehire him at a higher wage than before. Treat it like a well paid vacation. Dont know if that would get them around the legalities, and reward the guy like he shouldve been in the first place.

I guess I should clarify.......Its a crock that they had to do this to the guy. But if you have to get around the lawsuits, maybe this would be a good way.

I'll bet all the big chains have the same exact policy. They have to enforce the policy every time or it stops being a policy and they'd be open to the lawsuits.

Maybe the corner mom and pop parts store doesn't have the be a victim policy.

The insurance companies are instigators of this type behavior. They increase a business's insurance rate if they don't follow certain 'safety' policies, and this is one of them.

That's my buddy PeeWee Jones at Riverbend Gunclub. PeeWee is 3ft 4inches tall, and a crack shot at skeet and sporting clays.

One would think that since:

1 Autozone does not ban concealed carry for cstomers

2 The Employee had punched out for the night

3 He ran to get his gun from his truck

He did not violate company policy because TECHNICALLY he was NOT working at the time. He was just a citizen with a concealed carry permit, like any customer or good samaritan in the area.

Back in the 90's my brother and my Dad worked for 7-11 in San Antonio, TX. At the time the store policy was not to prosecute if they were robbed. Every nickel and dime hoodlum or punk knew this and would take their chances robbing 7-11! The cops also would not respond unless the perpetrator was still in the store. My brother told me one instance were the cashier chased down the punk who had run from the store, whupped the individual senseless, and drugged him back into the store, before calling the authorities. The assailant was crying about his rights the whole time he was being handcuffed and carried away which had the cops laughing in disbelief!! That was one for the good guys!

My brother, unbeknownst to some would be thieves, locked the door once when he knew he was getting ready to be robbed! He yelled at them when they committed their act. They immediately bolted for the entrance with the first knocking himself out upon hitting the locked glass door The one in the rear only sustained minor injuries due to his buddy cushioning the crash or so my brother says. Anyhow that is what he told the authorities who were kind enough to overlook his raw knuckles!!

I got to hear a lot of funny stories like that but I still was glad when my elderly Dad finally quit! What a senseless, chickens--t, way to run a business!
