Cougar Posted April 14, 2013 #51 Posted April 14, 2013 OK Brian.. Here are the results---- The findings before tuning.. CH 1 -- 1.1 CH 20 -- 2.1 CH 40 -- 3.0 I loosened the set crews and noticed that the ant was bottomed out to to base. I raise the Ant. About a 1/8 of an inch and re-checked The new results are CH 1 -- 1.1 CH 20 -- 1.3 CH 40 -- 2.1 Here is a not very good pick of how much I had to raise it. (black mark) Seems to be working pretty well now. had my wife on the other end with the portable CB, So glad this is a done project and thanks for the help. I swear I was picking up Mexico when done and I also removed that fine test instrument as well !! Forgot the mention that when I was close to the meter/ant ? it would effect the readings so on each tune I had to step back about 3 feet it seemed that I was interfering the tunning at first. Guest tx2sturgis Posted April 14, 2013 #52 Posted April 14, 2013 The new results are CH 1 -- 1.1 CH 20 -- 1.3 CH 40 -- 2.1 Lock 'er down! These are good results. Unless you were constantly talking on Ch 35-40, I would say leave it as is. Your best radio range will probably be on Ch 1-20, so when running with someone, choose one of those channels and you should be good to go.
First_N_Last Posted May 25, 2013 #54 Posted May 25, 2013 Glad you guys rumbled this thread up as I need to get to get'in on this tun'in this weekend and give you some numbers. Stay Tuned !! Well; I managed to fix my broken transmit switch & got the antenna tuned. chan1 - 1.5 chan40 - .5 antenna is a touch to short to adjust further, but the setting is good enough. John
