Not to start a fight, but an article on the opinion page of The Wall Street Journal today. Regular business writer byline.

Claims that the real problems at Hostess are on the distribution side and the Teamster work rules. For instance: bread and cupcakes can't ride same truck, drivers don't help load or unload - second vehicle sent with person to do that, same for moving inventory from stock to shelves in the store.

Writer says he can understand the bakers (who have taken several hits) don't want to subsidize the Teamsters any more, especially since the company would fail without those changes anyhow. Thinks it's quite reasonable for the bakers to conclude they might end up with better jobs in a viable company when the plants are under new ownership.

Bottom line, unions did themselves in.

Stopped at Walmart on the way home Monday night looking for a specific kind of Christmas lights.

In a display by the door was a stack of sacks Hostess Sweet Sixteen powdered donuts. I grabbed a sack of them. I thought maybe a local bakery was still making Hostess products under license.

They came from Interstate Brands in Irving, TX. A quick Yahoo search turned up that is Hostess and they are closed. Guess these donuts were the last of them in the pipeline.

Check the dates on those will ya....... or is it too late? :stickpoke::rotf::rotf::rotf:

Did they seem a lil chewy? :scratchchin:

Had an EXP date of Dec 5. They were long gone by then... :rasberry:

I think they just have an expiration date because the have to, They will probably be found by some archeologists 5000 years from now and still be just fine..........

I sure will miss my whipped pig fat sandwiches.

This will be like the New-Coke/Old-Coke brewha. Once Twinkies are available again people will be snapping them up. (Does anyone care about Wonder Bread?).

I do. Not a big fan of the other products, although the chocolate doughnut gems with chocolate milk are pretty decent.

I think it's 98% fat. Keeps it soft.
