bongobobny Posted November 15, 2012 #1 Posted November 15, 2012 No problem, I have Firefox and Chrome as well, but Windows installed an update last night and now IE opens but never finds my home page. It still works fine internally but I can't get onto the internet with it. I use IE as default. Anyone else having this issue???
saddlebum Posted November 15, 2012 #2 Posted November 15, 2012 Hope this isn't a widespread concern. All my work related stuff only works on IE
Max Posted November 15, 2012 #3 Posted November 15, 2012 Bob, quick check : tools, internet options, general. I believe the general page should have your homepage in dialogue box.
Mike G in SC Posted November 15, 2012 #4 Posted November 15, 2012 (edited) Might try IE Reset: Open IE, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced then at the bottom is a RESET button. It will probably loose history, maybe cookies and such. But it may shake the gremlins out. Also, if you want to run this RESET (run the IE Tools, Internet Options, delete functions), you can also do it by opening the Start, Control Panel, Internet Options icon instead of actually opening IE. That is probably cleaner if you are having IE problems. I would set a Restore Point before doing anything. Edited November 15, 2012 by Mike G in SC
bongobobny Posted November 16, 2012 Author #5 Posted November 16, 2012 Well, tried that Mike, but still not working for internet. Glad I have other browsers...
djh3 Posted November 16, 2012 #6 Posted November 16, 2012 Last couple weeks when using chrome, I have got a message about no longer supported browser. I ran into this when I was running win98. Once your system is 2 behind windows latest and greatest they dont support it anymore.
bongobobny Posted November 16, 2012 Author #7 Posted November 16, 2012 I'm running Windows 7 premium home... My netbook works fine but it hasn't received the latest windows update that was installed yesterday... Using Chrome right now and starting to like it!
bongobobny Posted November 16, 2012 Author #8 Posted November 16, 2012 Well, downloaded the latest updates on my netbook, which uses the same OS, and IE still works on it. I tried going to the MS website with Chrome and downloaded IE again but it still didn't fix it. Very strange! Oh well, guess I'm gonna have to invite my computer Wizard over for dinner some time...
Wizard765 Posted November 16, 2012 #9 Posted November 16, 2012 Hey Bob: Dinner sounds GREAT.. Let's set up a date...
bongobobny Posted November 16, 2012 Author #10 Posted November 16, 2012 I just did a system restore to an earlier date and now all is well...
Mike G in SC Posted November 17, 2012 #11 Posted November 17, 2012 Duhhh, seemed too easy a fix. I looked back,,, no one said that one. So might wait a day or two and go get the MS update manually. I just did a system restore to an earlier date and now all is well...
jeff1 Posted November 17, 2012 #12 Posted November 17, 2012 What happened to us is that when our Windows 7 machine updated to IE 9 we ended up wit an error message that IE encountered a problem and needed to close. What I did to fix it was to turn off hardware acceleration and use software rendering instead of the graphics processing unit (GPU). This was done so I could get on the internet. I then used Windows update to update the driver, then turned hardware acceleration back on and presto IE works. Instructions for this can be found in IE help or on the Microsoft website. Jeff

lsutley Posted November 18, 2012 #14 Posted November 18, 2012 Loaded a beta version of IE 10 last evening and all went very well. I have had a few problems with IE 9 not opening properly in new windows. So far so good with the update to IE 10.
