Very nice bike and I'm glad Kit is getting to put some miles on it. Looking at the pictures depresses me.....all sunny...looks warm...then I look outside here and see a frozen snow covered pond. :(

We are home safe.....the peach pie and Ice Cream was great......getting quite a list of good places to stop!! This one is a keeper. Got home and picked up Sandy and we went another 40 miles to Swansea to get a Sunday Paper.....was just too pretty an afternoon to put the bike up just yet!!:bighug:

Followed all your previous posts about "Cricket".......................about how you were going to 'fix' the chirp............about how you never left things alone, you were not going to rest till it was right because you could fix anything....................then about how you were fed up and selling the bike...................then about how this was the best bike you have ever owned.....................been a Harley rider for years............this Venture was a keeper..............best motorcycle you ever owned................then all of a sudden you no longer own a Venture but traded it in on a Goldwing............best motorcycle you ever owned............has ABS..........lots of pictures..........more than with the Venture.........seems like the Honda is the ultimate.

Kit........................are you sure? I am waiting for the first negative post about what is wrong with the Goldwing.

Hi Vance....first you have to understand.....I suffer from both multiple bike dis-order and also multiple personality dis-order......I live in the south!!

All statements are true......I did fight them to a standstill and did get the clutch basket fixed(as much as is possible with these bikes-all of them will always have a bit of that at a specific gear and speed range) The Venture is a good bike, reliable......will most likely run for years.......and the fact that I also developed the rear cylinder problem was not entirely a factor in getting rid of it. I had considered three bikes when I purchased the Venture........I have always loved a Harley.......but not the Harley attitude........so even though the product has improved and as far as I can tell.....is now neck and neck with any other product......I have been drifting away from the Harley for about 5 years now.......our local ABATE chapter is everything I dislike about motorcyclists.........no helmets.....tavern runs.......chips on the shoulders.......down-talk other bikes and riders...just not me!!

I suppose I purchased the Venture because it had the traditional style that I loved.......and I put loud pipes on it.......not for the fact loud pipes save lives nonsense......I just liked them!!...it is tradition!!.

However.......the venture and other motorcycles are so far behind the times....I just got to thinking....why should I sit here and put up with all the things I do not like especially safety issues.....if I have a choice?

The 2nd gen honestly is top heavy......does not have good balance in sharp turns(low speed ones) and will freeze you to death on a cold day, when I rode it up to Rock hill to have the clutch basket fixed, I was bundled up like a polar bear and still stopped twice to get a cup of coffee(28 degrees that morning) The 1st Gen is much warmer!!

So my change to the Wing was for the most part......it is purdy.....it is powerful......this thing will sit on cruise at 100 if you want to run it like that and not even flinch ......it has so much performance......it is hard to describe. AND safety......was the big one.........highly visible lighting front and rear.......ABS brakes and more than that just the standard brakes on a Wing are like the brakes in a top of the line luxury car...just lay your foot on the pedal and it stops........but the ABS is there if you ever need them.

Balance and performance handling are super.....especially two up...it is so much better than other bikes....again you have to ride one to know.

So my basic decision is and was to move on......to stop fighting technology.....totally leave all old school thinking behind........:buttkick:and get with the program.........take advantage of all the things I know and use my common sense. So again bottom line was safety and visibility and comfort under all circumstances.

Negatives.........I know a lot about bikes......and I suppose the only negative is the foot position......yes it is more cramped than the other brand bikes.....or different shall I say.......and if a person is not used to that, could be an issue....also big feet!! Big feet will not get along well on the wing.......but to any situation is a solution.........in floor boards.....highway bars........and common sense.....I put my feet everywhere.....just like at times on a long run I use the brake or clutch resivoir for a handlebar......change up positions....stand up at the stop lights......grin at the pretty girl in the car next to you......something!!

The plus of the Venture was it helped me make the final break from the Harley clan.......and that attitude......I was looking for answers for the clutch basket.....did not know a lot about the Venture.......and ran into Dons site......I found and got all the help and info I needed.......pulled a few legs......had some laughs........and met some good everyday folks. People more in line with my way of life.........so that was the result of my Venture ownership.

To sum it all up.......the Venture is an great bike......and traditional....but also in the 1st Gen is a hint of the Wing........so when you get right down to it......the Wing is just a 1st Gen turned into a Luxury Bike. The ultimate crouch rocket with saddlebags!!

It also helps to be about half insane!! :rotf::rotf::rotf: Take Care Kit

Good deal. Here's hoping you enjoy many happy miles. No debate the Goldwing is smoother and quieter. My wife prefers the wing back seat to the Venture. She may have even dozed off back there a time or two. But for me, the Venture is hands down the more comfortable bike. I couldn't do more than about 50 miles on my wing before I had to start squirming. So I went from a wing to a Venture, you went the opposite. Important thing is, we're both still riding.

Congratulations on you new ride.

I agree with the lights on the wing. Like the heated grips and seat. It has several things but I'll probally never buy another new one although another 1st Gen might show up. Really don't need that but if a Blue 84 Std with the right stuff on it came along........

hey Kit... I do love the looks of your new ride...especially the color. Not so sure I like that monstrous chrome piece on the front of the fairing tho.

Considering all the great features of the new Wing, I guess you won't be wanting those 2 speed whitewalls anymore huh?

No Sorry. Those two speed white walls will not fit my new bike. Hope I did not cause you too much aggravation, I am sure you will find a buyer for them locally. Thanks Kit

Everything you said about the Wing has been my experience exactly. After 1 year I went from a brand new gl1800 to a brand new RSV. The RSV provided for me what the Wing did not: comfort, better looks, and most of all....soul. After 4 years I still find myself sneaking a peak at her hibernating in the garage. What a lovely machine! :)

There's nothing that sounds like a 'Wing or a Valkyrie with pipes. Sounds positively wicked! My TD with the Cobra Dragpipes sounds great (to me), but those extra 2 jugs make for some real happytunes. IMHO!

I been thinking about the pipes for the Wing.......:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. It will eventually happen.......always does.......but at the moment I am enjoying the silence......is actually kinda nice to be able to hear the birds singing on a back country road......Naw......I am getting spoiled....I think I will keep the quiet ones.....no need for ear plugs on this one!!
