kickin tires on a Ural

But where are the pretty girls?????? We want more not your ugly A**. :stickpoke: Looks like fun a little more snow and I could see a rope and old inner tube in your future vids and of course a pretty girl riding the tube.

Back in the Day I pulled all the kids in the neighbor hood on a truck tube behind my Honda Trail 70 whenever we got a good snow. Got kinda hairy when I tried cracking the whip especially when a small kid was riding and I could get up some speed,

Oh yeah? Maybe the salt/sea spray from all that ocean front property you have in Plainview got into the contacts on the SD and caused some problems -- yeah, that is feasible... :detective:

Five Urals tackle a ride up a snow packed mountain road in Colorado...along with an assortment of other bikes, and a Vespa scooter! The Urals aint fast, but here, they pass everything in sight.

Yeah this guy is a dumbass....riding in the mountains, on a 2 wheel, heavy touring motorcycle, snow and ice evident all around, he keeps heading UP in elevation, and he's riding in penny loafers!

Glad hes OK...sure coulda been worse.

Just a question, what does the spare tire on the sidecar fit, only the sidecar or do they have it designed so the wheels are interchangable ??

I believe that in 2007, (I'm not positive on the year) Ural made the switch to a disc brake on the front, so the Urals in the USA made after that time: The spare will interchange with the 'pusher', (which is the rear tire) or the sidecar, and apparently, with the use of a small spacer, the spare will mount up on the front, but you wont have a front brake.

Older model Urals have drum brakes all around, so the spare will mount in all three positions.

In other words, the pusher wheel, the sidecar wheel, and the spare wheel, are all the same. The front wheel (on newer Urals) is different because of the disc brake hub and rotor.

Are you just curious? Or are you 'kickin the tires' too? :whistling:

The Texas Panhandle gets its share of snow. We had blizzard warnings for the last 24 hours or so, and mother nature did not disappoint.

After the major part of the storm had passed, I took the Ural out and put the 2WD feature thru its paces...so to speak. I'm not an expert of course, and I had a few learning moments, that almost turned into oh s**t moments...but I had fun and got lots of looks out riding in this stuff today.

That looks like fun. How wet did you get from water/slush coming off road. I don't mind being cold and I don't mind being wet but I hate being cold AND wet. The one time in recent years I rode in snow just a short distance I was half soaked by time I got home.:yikes:

Yep...my boots got soaked, and my pants legs were kinda wet....the boots were supposed to be waterproof, but I guess they were more in the category of water 'resistant'...obviously rubber boots (ski boots?) might be in order if a guy was gonna do this all day.

That was cool... Very cool!! I didn't know about the reverse gear. Now I gotta have one. My wife is gonna be mad at you:yikes:

Yeah, its a true, gear driven, reverse. Works well, but the ice was kinda building up and blocking my easy access to the lever. (pics 2 and 3, black knob just visible) But you can even get an accessory tank shifter lever for it, or the 2WD lever, or both.

I've never owned something like this...its a huge amount of fun! Your wife would love it! :happy34:

I'm thinking. Y'all follow along.

The other day, I was riding the Ural in the deep snow and some slush that accumulated here in the Texas Panhandle after Winter Storm Rocky.

Just as I started to accelerate on some wet pavement, the bike started shaking violently! WTF?

Ok...lets pull over and see what happened. Blown tire? loose wheel? missing shock? Tonneau cover flapping in the wind?

No one told me to order the optional spoke de-icers. So I had to do it manually. A big chunk of the icepack around the sidecar wheel had dislodged, leaving probably about 2 pounds still packed in the wheel, on one side, leaving it VERY lopsided and out of balance. Not even Dyna-beads would have fixed this!

Of course, no one locally here would ever need or be able to build a propane powered wheel de-icer, but I'm thinking maybe a variable spread nozzle, trunk mounted propane tank, and speed and temperature triggered sensor for the automatic flame activation.

That would be quite a sight, I'm sure, to see flames shooting out both sides of the rig when running in deep snow!

Ok, how many think this is a good idea?

I have some mountain resort property in Western Kansas that's for sale too.

There sure is a learning curve on this beast, but I'm loving it!

A girl to drive, and a dog to navigate.

On the other hand, your wife could drive, and you could ride on the back...or...in the navigator seat!

A friend in Amarillo bought a holdover 2011, but new, Ural Gear-Up. He got a good deal on it from a dealer in Alabama, so he rented a trailer, drove to Alabama, picked it up and brought it home. Over 1700 mile round trip!

There is now a second Ural running around here!

Dang Brian,

I thought I was the only one that hauled mowers and such on the bike...

Good for you...

The sales girl at Gebo's was looking at me like I was from Mars when I told her it's riding home with me on a motorcycle.
