Ok, I have been thinking about building my own trailer. I have been trying to come up with something unique but not break the bank. So instead of the car top shell on a trailer, I was thinking of using an old jet ski hull. Some thing like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-SEADOO-GSX-LTD-LIMITED-SEA-DOO-SEA-DOO-JETSKI-HULL-BODY-SHELL-ONLY-98-2-/150810965330?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D2910077393800632983%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D150810965330%26

What do you guys think? would it be to heavy? I figure a good strong fiberglass hull would be easy to convert into a trailer shell not to mention it would look pretty cool being towed behind the bike. Thoughts??

It would look cool but I think the weight would be a bit too much.

Id have to check the weight of the hull and trailer. Im not sure its too heavy. Someone on this site had a caasket trailer made from a real casket. Ive carried a few of those things and they arent light. Now it may be a bit too wide. As in way wider than the bike. But yea it would look cool behing the bike

I'm not sure if you want to spend the money for one of these, but a Thule box might be more inline with what you want to do. Sure, it will cost a few hundred more than that heavy jetski hull, but its ready to go as a cargo box. Just mount it on a frame of your own design, or modify something on the market such as the HF trailer thats so popular here.

Some of these can be had new for under $400. Others, of course are more expensive.

My first thoughts are that it will be pretty heavy. I have no idea how much weight can be carved out of the inside in the form of bulkheads and mounts.

As far as using it as a trailer, I wonder just how much useable room there would be inside of it.

I do not think that the trailer it is on is included since the add says hull and body only.

are the seat, handle bars and hatches available to fill the holes and make it look right?

I think it is a cool idea if you can make it work. I like the snowmobile idea too.

The snowmobile hood idea is a really good one. Old Snow Cruiser or Artic Cat hoods are huge. Especially when they're running over top of you ( don't ask me how I know).

My trailer might give you a bit of an idea what it might look like, and what you'll have to do with the back end.

Thanks for the input. I guess I need to get around to the local shops and see if anyone has just a hull laying around somewhere. google has failed me and just will not tell me how much a hull weighs. I did find these which would also be a cool top to a trailer.

I don't know what they cost but they would make a cool trailer. I will have to wait for them to get back to me.

If I build a trailer I want to make it a true one of a kind and avoid the typical HF trailer with a car top carrier. That is just not my thing. I am thinking of using the HF platform to start from but I want to make it a conversation piece along with being functional and something out of the ordinary.

I can relate. I did that too: made something no one else has. And it works good for me.

There are trailers out there that look like coffins, whiskey barrels, boats, cars, missiles, giant coolers, saddlebags, pink elephants, and oh yeah, car-top carriers!

To get some ideas, go to this page and scroll down to the list of trailers...click a few and you will see all KINDS of trailers.

Good luck sir.

OK so what bout one of these? Legends car. They come in several different "old" body styles, coups and sedans. Or the second boady is a bit smaller type mounted on a go cart frame.

If memory serves me, I believe Bib Bob made a trailer out of a snow mobile.

Wait.... here's a thought. Buy the hull, split it and make a fairing out of it..... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ok so i found a shop in Maine that has a 53 Ford pick-up 60” long x 26” wide x 24” high and it weighs about 35 Lbs. They are made with fiberglass and look like this. for 375.00 plus a HF trailer bed I could be well on my way to a one of a kind trailer for less than 1000.00 bucks. Now if I could carve out some time and get over the fear of starting something I can't finish. what do you think is it worth the effort?
