msshearin Posted October 17, 2012 #1 Posted October 17, 2012 If I have been using a little seafoam in every fillup sense I have owned my bike,do I need to put Stabol in her when I put her up for the cold months? In short, will Seafoam do the same thing as Stabol as far as keeping the gas from turning to varnish in the carbs?
Black Owl Posted October 17, 2012 #2 Posted October 17, 2012 I Seafoam every fall before I store the scoot. I also Seasform the chain saws, lawn mower, etc and the snow blower in the spring. Have yet to have a problem with any of them. Others may have had a different experience.......
Cougar Posted October 17, 2012 #3 Posted October 17, 2012 Seafoam in everything.. do not buy Stable. it will gunk your stuff up.... however that just my opinion.
Sailor Posted October 17, 2012 #4 Posted October 17, 2012 Seafoam in everything every fall. No problems starting up in the spring. I used to use stabil but it would cause rough running and smoke every spring until I had run at least one tank through.
pmelah Posted October 17, 2012 #5 Posted October 17, 2012 i would stick with the sea foam and very little gas staybol is really only good for short term storage in the ethanol gas ask me how i know after 500.00 later (weed eater, chain saw, lawn mower, and carb on 87 Mazda B-2000)
pmelah Posted October 17, 2012 #6 Posted October 17, 2012 or you could move further south and ride year round
OB-1 Posted October 17, 2012 #7 Posted October 17, 2012 I have used "STA-BIL" fuel stabilizer in my RSV every winter since buying the bike in 06. I have not had any problems with stale fuel or clogged carburetors.

In short, will Seafoam do the same thing as Stabol as far as keeping the gas from turning to varnish in the carbs? yes, seafoam is also a fuel stabilizer i do not care for the sta-bil product i have used the seafoam for about 15 years+ in all of my motorcycles, lawnmowers, snow blowers and weed eaters, my old antique dirtbikes have fuel with birthdays, and they run fine every summer for a mile or two and then away for another year.
Power Trippin Posted October 17, 2012 #9 Posted October 17, 2012 Or....run non-oxygenated gas and do not worry about the fuel going bad, cause it won't. Well, at least not for a few months, anyways. Thats all I run in all my toys, never been a problem.
dacheedah Posted October 17, 2012 #10 Posted October 17, 2012 (edited) I have run marine stabol in everything , mostly watercraft but also in my bike and mower and I have never had an issue, still riding strong Edited October 20, 2012 by dacheedah
N3FOL Posted October 19, 2012 #11 Posted October 19, 2012 Also a Seafoam fan on this end. From garden equipment to my Venture has seafoam in them. I rarely put seafoam on the bike since I ride all year round.
star4772 Posted October 19, 2012 #12 Posted October 19, 2012 I have used "STA-BIL" fuel stabilizer in my RSV every winter since buying the bike in 06. I have not had any problems with stale fuel or clogged carburetors. Yeah what he said,me too
wizard Posted October 19, 2012 #13 Posted October 19, 2012 I stopped using Sea Foam when they raised the price. I believe its B-2 Chemtool I'm using now.
friesman Posted October 20, 2012 #15 Posted October 20, 2012 I like seafoam, I know it works, so why change and take a chance. If you look at the Seafoam website it states that its a fuel stabilizer, so dont waste your money on both seafoam and stabil, pick one or the other. My choice would be Seafoam Brian

My choice would be Seafoam Briani It actually states it will stabalize fuel up to two years. that is better than most fuel stabalizers that only claim a few months. They also claim to protect your engine from ethanol fuel damage. http://www.seafoamsales.com/how-to-use-sea-foam-motor-treatment.html Edited October 20, 2012 by saddlebum
OLDYELR Posted October 20, 2012 #17 Posted October 20, 2012 I've used Seafoam in the bikes I've had including my Venture & my SSR for years. Never had a problem. Also was told by two different Auto Parts places Seafoam was the best.
Mike G in SC Posted October 20, 2012 #18 Posted October 20, 2012 There's two similar threads floating on this, gas additives. As for fighting ethanol, water or winterizing also consider Startron. My savy Yamaha dealer (who also sells watercraft) recommends it above any other additives. From the other thread: Look for STARTRON in stores. In WalMart it is in the marine section next to the boat oil. The bottle is Windex blue. About $8 but goes a long way. It is for both ethanol and water in gas. Good stuff, will make ethanol gas safe (stable) for months. http://content.westmarine.com/images/catalog/large/5617741.jpg
msshearin Posted October 20, 2012 Author #19 Posted October 20, 2012 thanks for all the responses..... I have been sold on Seafoam for years and do use about 2 ounces with (every) fillup on my bike and wifes Burgman and no carb or FI problems at all with either, even put the stuff in my diesel tractor. Its good to know that there is no need to go out and buy Stabil now. Wonder how much a 55 gallon barrel of Seafoam would cost?
XV1100SE Posted October 20, 2012 #20 Posted October 20, 2012 Seafoam on sale at Canadian tire for $10 a can this week. Down from $12 and change.
Celt Posted October 20, 2012 #21 Posted October 20, 2012 Been using Seafoam for many years now ,great stuff . bikes lawn mower etc. picked up 8 bottles for $7 each at Oreillys in Wa state last coupla weekends:cool10:.
N3FOL Posted October 21, 2012 #22 Posted October 21, 2012 I stopped using Sea Foam when they raised the price. I believe its B-2 Chemtool I'm using now. I also noticed that the price has been going up. However, I do believe that a lot of people will continue to buy the product due to its proven results and good reputation from users.
