Brake Pad Posted October 5, 2012 #1 Posted October 5, 2012 how do you measure speakers, from corner to corner or left top to bottom right? I went looking for speakers, and the guy asked this question. I did this
BoomerCPO Posted October 5, 2012 #2 Posted October 5, 2012 Why dontcha bring one of the old speakers wit you jest to make sure ya got de right size to fit de scoot? Boomer....who sez dat theory won't werk if yer dragging yer ex-wife onto a car lot fer a trade in onna nice truck....
Brake Pad Posted October 5, 2012 Author #3 Posted October 5, 2012 they'd say she has to many miles on here, junk her:doh:
Eck Posted October 5, 2012 #4 Posted October 5, 2012 center to center of mounting holes.. from top to bottom mounting holes and then side to side mounting holes.
Brake Pad Posted October 6, 2012 Author #5 Posted October 6, 2012 so you mean no one is right???, the audio guy said top left to bottom right, which makes a 4 inch speaker, 5 1/2 inch:doh: doesn't matter now, I ordered the speakers that John T showed me. But its interesting to know the right way...
Eck Posted October 6, 2012 #6 Posted October 6, 2012 so you mean no one is right???, the audio guy said top left to bottom right, which makes a 4 inch speaker, 5 1/2 inch:doh: I disagree with the audio guy.. center to center of mounting hole pattern top to bottom and side to side is the only way. Measuring top left to bottom right does not make sence to me at all.. how would one know they have a 6 x 9 speaker measuing this way?
Freebird Posted October 6, 2012 #7 Posted October 6, 2012 I disagree with all of you. 4" is the diameter of the woofer. The holes will be slightly more. Here is an example. This is of a Pioneer but it is the standard. I have used these same Pioneer speakers as well as the Polks and they all had the same measurements in regards to the stud locations for mounting. They also matched the stock Clarion speakers.

Eck Posted October 6, 2012 #9 Posted October 6, 2012 duh...........I stand corrected....you be right...my bad..
Brake Pad Posted October 12, 2012 Author #10 Posted October 12, 2012 I received my speakers yesterday, they look pretty cool (Polk) I also bought longer bolts and spacers for the driving lights, I hate taking them Things off everytime I remove the Fairing. Sunday I'll take pictures of the work.

The "size" of the speaker is the diameter of the cone, the dimensions of the hole pattern tells you if it will fit the location. The good news is that those hole patterns are generally standard sizes, so most 4" round speakers should fit. Speaker depth can sometimes be an issue as well.
