Has anyone ever mounted a Mr. Gasket 42S fuel pump on a 1st Gen. If so, where and how did you mount it. My stock fuel pump has gone out and I already have a 42S that I used when I was trying to get my '83 running. I would like to use it if possible but I haven't found a good place to mount it. It's a little too big to fit in the location of the stock pump.

You could probably mount it to the frame holding the left sidecase. You would need slightly longer fuel lines but it shouldn't be an issue.

There is also space under the trunk, where the Royale air compressor is located.

There certainly is.

Just be aware that those pumps "push" better than they "pull"

The general guideline is to fit them close to the tank, and as low as reasonable. They are designed for cars so the modest distances and heights on a motorcycle should not prove too troublesome.
