TxVenture Posted January 25, 2008 #1 Posted January 25, 2008 The bike was down for approx. 4 mo. while I decided if I was going to ride again and also fixing all of the broken plastic. I did start it probably twice a month during that time. Now that it is all glued back together and ready to ride, it doesn't want to run for approx. 15 to 20 minutes after starting. It seems that after the motor gets a little heat in it, it seems to even out and will idle pretty smoothly. I have run about 1/4 can of Seafoam in the first full tank, but haven't run it all out yet. It starts good, but needs to have the choke on quite a while. Also, I get a strong smell of gasoline while riding. Does this sound like carb problems, or possibly something else? Any help will be appreciated. Don H.
hipshot Posted January 25, 2008 #2 Posted January 25, 2008 don. it sounds to me like maybe one or more of your carb floats might be a little "gunked up". i would run a stronger sea foam solution, through it. maybe a full can to a tank of fuel. run about half of it out, let it sit awhile, and run it some more. i'm sure , someone here, has a better solution, than mine, so just "stand by"! lol just jt
GeorgeS Posted January 25, 2008 #3 Posted January 25, 2008 Try draining the tank and the carb bowls, Put some HEET in it first in case you have water in gas. Start over with new gas, and some Sea - Foam, Try to get some road time with the Sea Foam.
93 venture Posted January 25, 2008 #4 Posted January 25, 2008 IM NOT THERE TO HEAR WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE BUT MY FIRST THOUGHT WOULD BE TO REMOVE THE SPARK PLUGS AND REPLACE WITH A NEW SET,IT DONT TAKE MUCH TO GAS FALED THE PLUGS. IF I JUST START MINE UP IN THE WINTER AND LET IT RUN ON CHOKE FOR TO LONG IT WILL MESS THE PLUGS UP AND I END UP REPLACING THEM.
Squidley Posted January 25, 2008 #5 Posted January 25, 2008 I agree with changing the plugs, Ventures dont run good after fouling plugs. I agree with JT in that I use a whole can of Seafoam in a tankful, dont dilute it. When you get fresh gas and Seafoam in it, get on the expressway and run the hell out of it 70 mph+ Most times I have found that if you run them like you hate them they purrrr

Freebird Posted January 25, 2008 #7 Posted January 25, 2008 I also think that you are going too easy on the Seafoam. Even with mine running good, I usually run a full can in a tank of gas about twice a year.
