Guest TFD69 Posted January 24, 2008 #1 Posted January 24, 2008 We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE." For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference! Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today! Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about thisIt really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest . ICE will speak for you when you are not able to.
nance56 Posted January 24, 2008 #2 Posted January 24, 2008 We have had this in our phones for a couple of years now. I think it's a great idea.
AmnChode Posted January 24, 2008 #3 Posted January 24, 2008 Same here. Only change I had to adjust to was saying the word "ice" when voice dialing. Minor annoyance compared to the fact that it could save my life one day...
Trondomatic Posted January 24, 2008 #4 Posted January 24, 2008 Thanks for the great idea. Done and done. cheers, trond
Freebird Posted January 24, 2008 #5 Posted January 24, 2008 A lot of the new phones have an entry "ICE" programmed in. You just add the number that you want used.
AmnChode Posted January 24, 2008 #6 Posted January 24, 2008 That'd be a handy little feature as long as it allows you to enter the number elsewhere. That's why I had to adjust my voice dial. It wouldn't let me enter the number in 2 places...
Mariner Fan Posted January 24, 2008 #7 Posted January 24, 2008 I've had an ICE number on my phone for years. It's a great idea. It's kinda interesting that the concept was thought up by Paramedics. I spent 10 years with Deer Park Ambulance and never had a situation where I had to call someone. We were in the business of stabilizing patients and transporting them to the hospital. Now, I've seen many times were a nurse or receptionist will contact a family member but never a Paramedic in the field.
BuddyRich Posted January 24, 2008 #8 Posted January 24, 2008 Made a mistake on my phone, Now its says "ICE Wife"... Wonder if I should fix that...
E-Fishin-C Posted January 24, 2008 #9 Posted January 24, 2008 I use Ice all the time.... Smirnoff Ice.... that is:rotfl:
Orrin Posted January 25, 2008 #10 Posted January 25, 2008 What a great idea. I just finished adding ICE before all my kids names. So if I crash again they will know who call and where to send the pieces. Thanks
nkbjones Posted January 25, 2008 #11 Posted January 25, 2008 We ICED our phones about 2 years ago when I 1st heard of this. This is a great ides, you just never now when you may need to have an emergency contact available. Another idea is to list multiple ICE's in the order that you want them called (ex. ICE1-wife, ICE2-brother, etc).
86er Posted January 25, 2008 #12 Posted January 25, 2008 I was talking to a friend, that is a sheriff, about this and he said that this is a great idea, but it is nice to have a name of who they are calling. So it is a good idea to add a name after your ICE #. ie: ICE Betty 770 555 9999
Pecker Posted January 25, 2008 #13 Posted January 25, 2008 Excellent idea, sure wished I had that in my cell a few yrs back. I was in an accident, found at the scene knocked out cold. When the paramedics got there and realized the situation was very serious, it took them almost an hour to reach the wife. I had an employer ID card on me, called them to get transfered twice to HR, put on hold for twenty minutes while a temp. found my info to pass on to the EMS. ICE would have saved ALOT of trouble for EMS and my wife.
