Freebird Posted January 24, 2008 #1 Posted January 24, 2008 If anybody here has an old headset that they want to part with, I would like to have it. I am looking for something where the cord and mic are OK but the speakers are shot. I want to experiment with adding a 3.5" stereo jack to them so that you can just plug in a set of noise canceling ear buds of any brand and completely remove the existing speakers.

You know you can experiment with your existing headset using the adapter from CycleGadgets I posted in the other Headset post. It plugs in line with the cord and provides a jack for the headset. Its only like $37 I think.

Freebird Posted January 24, 2008 Author #4 Posted January 24, 2008 hmmmm.....sounds like a pretty darn good deal. As for using the cyclegadget cable, the problem is that my headsets are AirRiders and the microphone is integral with the left speaker so I won't be able to cut the speakers off. The speakers are too tight against my ear so I wouldn't be able to use them with the ear buds. If I have to, I'll just buy a cheap J&M headset to play with.
Bvinson Posted January 24, 2008 #5 Posted January 24, 2008 I have one I will send you. Edsets has that part already, it is what I have in my full coverage helmets we use in the winter. I will send the parts to you Monday at the latest. Bill
Freebird Posted January 24, 2008 Author #6 Posted January 24, 2008 What did you do? Order the Edsets without the helmet speakers and with the adapter for the earbuds? Oh...and thanks.
Bvinson Posted January 24, 2008 #7 Posted January 24, 2008 What did you do? Order the Edsets without the helmet speakers and with the adapter for the earbuds? Oh...and thanks. That's exactly what I did. He makes an adapter that you can change from his speakers to the earbuds. I use both (earbuds & speakers) and swap back and forth. I will say that his speakers are the best I have heard. I have the high end J&M's with the Bass tubes in my 3/4 and the Eds sound better. The earbuds in my opinion are better than any of the speakers. One word of advise is to go with the smallest you can find. The pressure from the sides of the helmet makes them feel like they are getting crammed down your ear. After a couple of days on long trips your ears will get sore. I found a cure when I bought V-Moda Vibes at Costco. They are tiny & sound great. Anyway, parts are on the way..
