GeorgiaYankee Posted September 13, 2012 #1 Posted September 13, 2012 I'm fixing to replace my slave assembly pretty soon, getting tired of topping off my clutch fluid every 2 weeks or so. I want to have everything ready so I ordered a new slave, which looks like it has the piston and spring inside (big wad of grease inside). I can't find if there is a gasket for the middle drive gear? Do y'all use permatex or am I missing this gasket in the parts diagrams somehow? Thanks in advance
dingy Posted September 13, 2012 #2 Posted September 13, 2012 Look at partshark.com or similar under Crankcase cover tab 3JP-15461-01-00 is middle drive cover gasket 90430-06014-00 is a copper washer on bottom of middle drive gear cover Gary
bmxndad Posted September 13, 2012 #3 Posted September 13, 2012 Where did you get the new slave cylinder from. I am having trouble locating one. Thanks, Ross
GeorgiaYankee Posted September 13, 2012 Author #4 Posted September 13, 2012 Thanks dingy!! bmxndad, the part I got is 1FK-16381-11-00, they call it a "push lever comp", ordered through metricpartsoutlet.com. I think it's the right thing... cost $65.99 plus shipping. I was going to get the rebuild kit, but read on here it's not a sure thing to work. I'm kinda new to getting this far into a bike with maintenance and repairs, so I'm still learning...
dingy Posted September 13, 2012 #5 Posted September 13, 2012 That may not be the correct part #'s I posted, I just saw you posted in 2nd gen tech. Numbers I gave are for a 1st gen. Look at thread below to help show what bike you have in your posts. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58880 Gary
GeorgiaYankee Posted September 13, 2012 Author #6 Posted September 13, 2012 Nice catch, I'm glad you let me know, but the part numbers do come out correct according to my parts list for my '99. Maybe they didn't change the parts between the first and second gens? Anyway, thanks again, and I'll be sure to update my profile since you were kind enough to help a newb out with the instructions link.
GeorgiaYankee Posted September 24, 2012 Author #7 Posted September 24, 2012 Got the slave replace, and it's working great, no leaks, and the part numbers were correct. Had enough dot 4 left over to replace front brake fluid. What a huge difference, I had no idea. The old fluid was brown like a mild coffee, yikes.
