IF buying a bike out of state....

I bought a Strat from a FL seller. Picked it up and paid cash. He had title in hand.

Bill of sale and had it registered in SC in two days.

I bought my Venture from a finance company, the PO in AL. The finance company took their time on the title and then sent it to the PO. Ended up being well over the SC 45 days. The PO, a good friend, mailed me a fresh bill of sale (more current date) and the signed title.

THEN I had no problem in SC.

Could be he's afraid of being held liable in case the buyer has an accident with the bike before transfering the title.

I once sold a car to some kid who took it out into the woods and used it as a speed bump for their bigfoot trucks :cool10: when they were done with it, they left it there and burned it, Guess who the state police called when they found it !! Good thing I had a signed bill of sale from the buyer.

Holy crap! I always give a bill of sale when I sell, but never bothered to keep a copy for myself. I never even pictured a scenario like that. I sure will from now on, and maybe get a driver license number on it, so as to not end up :mugshot:.
