hipshot Posted January 23, 2008 #1 Posted January 23, 2008 as an addendum, without blindsiding robertbob's post. how many of us live in a neighborhood, where "KNOWN DRUG dealers/cookers", flourish, and yet the police are seemingly "powerless" to do anything about the problem? i can sit on my front porch, and SEE at least three dealer's houses. everyone in town ,knows who is dealing, except the county sheriff's dept. sometimes , when the wind is right, i can smell the crap, at my house. anyone else have a similar situation? just jt

Midnight Rider Posted January 23, 2008 #4 Posted January 23, 2008 I nicknamed the neighborhood I live in "the senior center". I am the youngest adult in my neighborhood. There are only 3 of us that still work. The rest are retired. Of course who knows what it will be like in 5 years. Dale

Just-Jack Posted January 23, 2008 #9 Posted January 23, 2008 OK so Ill set the stage Oldest sister graduation open house on a warm summer day. We had friends and family from all over the country at this open house being she was the 2nd grand daughter to graduate. We have a big yard and had the tents up in the 2nd lot next to our house. My family has lived in the same house since it was built in the forties....So 2 houses down on the same side of the street lives the drug dealer...cars coming and going all hours of the day and night..We had seen the survilance cars parked at either end the street for weeks now and of all days to hold the biggest bust..yup you guessed it on my sister open house...We all sat and watched them take bags and i mean bags of "whackie tabackie" out while the while family sat and watched..we have never seen a ATF drug bust so up and close and pesonal.. needless to say we always get a good chuckle every time we bring this up...they still live in the same house but they dont deal any more now we have the guy that lives across the street to deal with..we will just wait until he gets busted Jessie:2132:
FROG MAN Posted January 23, 2008 #10 Posted January 23, 2008 Most of what is around me is dealing weed and prescription med abuse. Beans trade hands for money and barter. You can actually buy groceries with beans in a few stores. Meth labs on the increase. Not much local bust except for the road checks. Law enforcement still trying to stop dealing out the back door of local businesses.Every house here has a home scanner and knows whats going on.Neighbors won't even give up local thieves for reward money. Got to protect family you know.
oldandcrotchety Posted January 23, 2008 #11 Posted January 23, 2008 Well I have to say that my local law officers do an outstanding job. About maybe 3 years ago we had a bunch of varmints move in to our neighborhood. They bought a few acres across the road and about 2 or 3 hundred yards to the west, and brought in a brand new double wide. Not long after they settled in, I noticed that they sure had a lot of friends coming and going at all hours of the day and night. (ok, I'm a little slow....but who would have thought..). Yep mighty friendly folks they were. Loud, though. loud music, loud parties, loud fights. Anyway, it wasn't long before a caravan of squad cars came past the house and raided the place. At last, even dumb little hillbilly me got it. Them ain't nice folks are they? So it wasn't long before the law was out there on a regular basis and was always hauling someone off. During this time was when I had a little problem with one of them trying to steal gas from me. But I've already told that story before. Anyway, it seemed like every month a new cast of characters occupied the house, and every month the deputies came out and hauled them out. I have a couple of friends on the sheriff's department and they both said that they were going to keep after that house every chance they had until they had enough people with enough charges and convictions that they could close that house up for good. and sure enough, they stayed after that place like a chicken on a june bug until every stinkin varmint and all their friends were in the penitentiary. some with convictions that will keep them there for a very long time. (kidnapping even). Well, that nice new double wide was vacant for a while and when I saw someone moving into it a few months ago I thought Rats! someone beat the rap. But no......a few days after moving in the man came down and introduced himself, and although I had never met him personally, I knew of him and knew about his family, which are well respected folks and even discovered that his wife and my daughter work together. Since then we have visited several times and I found out that he was renting the house from the owners mother who is taking care of the place until her son gets out of the big house. Don't know how that's going to work out though.....time doofus gets out of the slammer. Ma will either be long dead, or a hundred and twenty years old....................
Guest Popeye Posted January 23, 2008 #12 Posted January 23, 2008 I live on a dead-end street up in some steep hills. One of the original homeowners told me there hasn't been a crime in the neighborhood in the 44 years he's lived here. There's only about 30 houses in our neighborhood & everyone waves & knows/recognizes each other. Bad guys hate dead-end streets. However, Topeka is a few miles [diff county] away in one direction & plenty of crime. Then there is mostly country in the other directions....which probably means Meth-Labs somewhere. Being a retired cop & from Detroit, I'm pessimistic. But no busts in our county & no explosions....I'm still suspicious. There is no such thing as a 'safe', 'crime-free' area anymore, even if it seems like it for years & years & years. I ain't buyin' it. Someone's getting away with something, somewhere around here.
