1st gen whine

Rode my 1st gen to work today, i'ts first long ride and noticed a load whine every time i got off the gas. Fast or slow clutch in or out. Sounds like i'ts coming from the left side. The bike runs and shifts very good except for this whine. Goes away while on the gas. Anybody had this issuse?

were you passing a 2nd gen on the right?

When the rear pinion broke on my 89 that's what it did - whined when coasting.

the whine on decel got way worse before the output shaft went out. But my bike has always had a whine before and after Rockets fix.......and no its not the owner....

Sounds like the pinion bearings are too loose; the pinion nut may have worked loose.

I have to agree with the pinion gear . I broke the bolt on my 91. Didnt even know it was broke. I changed the rear pumpkin for one I got form Skydoc17 after I found metal flakes in the rear dif oil. Thats when I noticed the pinion shaft bolt broke.. Easy check is to jack it up . I just put mine on the center stand . Remove the rear wheel and final drive and inspect.

If you were quick you could have suggested that the 1st Gen whine is "I wanna be a 2nd gen!"
