I don't carry but I believe in a persons right to do so if they have the proper training and etc. I have done a LOT of shooting in my life. I used to shoot hundreds of rounds per week including pistol and rifle. I love shooting but just haven't done it in a few years. I used to have a Rock Chucker reloader and loaded all my own ammo. It was a lot of fun.

In my business travels, I get into some neighborhoods that I sometimes think that I should probably have a gun with me but have never had any problems yet. Of course, when I do it will be too late but I'll just continue and hope it doesn't happen.

If I DID carry, I would never attempt to cross the border with a firearm. Our neighbors may not agree with our laws but we don't have to agree with their's either. I know that we all share a pride in our countries and as much as I don't feel that any other country has the right to tell us what our laws should be, I also feel that we don't have the right to tell you what yours should be either.

I carry a hand gun just about 100 percent of the time. Mainly because of the areas that I have to run service work in in Columbia, South Carolina. I will not explain or get into details as it is not for this forum...but twice have had to use it.....and spent the day at the police station and a little money one time for a lawyer to defend me for defending myself. Both times have been in the drug ridden areas of Columbia, South Carolina where they sell drugs on the street corner .

As for having it on the bike.....yes I generally do.....but have never seen a need for it......but one never knows......someone may just very well walk into a McDonald's and start shooting.......in fact they did that recently somewhere, saw it on the news.....so one just never knows........so yes I carry a weapon...and practice with it........twice month.......250 rounds each session.

The main thing is if you carry a weapon.....be very, very aware of the law. Know what you can and cannot do....and always try your very best to avoid a situation first.......run......hide........walk away.........even when you are in the right....100 percent.....it sometimes is touch and go with the law......so to study.....to know the law.........that is just as important as all the other things related to carrying a gun........

And on that note.......please no one try to take a weapon into Canada....it is not worth the trouble you may find yourself in........practice running and hiding for Canada!! No one will bother you up there anyway......riding in a group......be a rare event if someone did something like that.

I am not going to the Canada Rallie.......would like to....just cannot take that much time off.......but if I did go.....that would be one time, the Sig would stay at home. Respectfully Kit

Just a note to some who may not be aware:

1.) Some states honor certain other states' CCHs, some do not. Check with the AG of your state for confirmation. No other source is good enough.

2.) Some states do NOT allow pepper spray &/or Mace, even though they allow sidearms.

3.) Fixed blade knives are illegal in most states [but big screwdrivers are always legal] & some limit blade length of folding knives. Edged weapons are deadly, but poor self defense due to delayed result.

4.) Blunt, heavy objects are decent protection, but should have a legitimate reason for being within reach. Maybe a 24 inch cheater pipe for ratchet?

5.) Stun Guns can be effective, but not legal in all states.

6.) Open carry of a sidearm, in some states, is the only legal way to carry, but may be illegal in several cities of that same state.

7.) Never use a weapon for a Property Crime. If you see someone stealing your scoot, but no threat to your life, just call 911 [despite some cases in TX & LA].

8.) CCW laws usually exclude places that serve alcohol, church/school property & countless other restrictions.

Never count on laws making sense.

When I was a young, new cop, I got a call about a guy walking through the mall in the Detroit area, with a shotgun over his shoulder. I talked to my boss, because I could think of no law against that. Turned out I was right. We had to call the DNR & have a Conservation Officer stop him with "intent to hunt illegally" suspicion, which was pretty lame. Strange, but the guy was a fine citizen who thought he was just being safe after hearing about crime in the area.

Also, the Less-Than-Lethal [LTL] option should be carefully considered.

If some drunked-up goon says he is "gonna give you a whoopin'" and he's unarmed, your sidearm is useless. You'll need that cheater pipe, rebar, etc., but need to know a strike to anyone's head/neck is considered "Deadly Force".

The Drunken Goon is the most common scenario [or Meth, Crack] & can be a very serious threat. I have taken many bad-guys down with a 'AA' Maglite with thumb on lens & a plunge into the clowns thigh, rib, etc., on duty and only a couple times off duty.

I carry 100% of the time. Have not traveled anywhere that does not recognize my Texas CHL. Hope I will never have to use it. But have no doubt that I could if absolutely pressed. I will not have myself or my kids herded into a back room to be killed. I don't know what would be worse, having them see me killed first or for me to see them killed. Not to say that I could stop it from happening, but I would die trying!

Wife and I both have our CHL. Both carry Glocks, also a Glock in the truck console and a Glock in each bedside table.

I carry. Anyone who can legally process a firearm in Texas can legally carry while in a motor vehicle or going to and from the vehicle, no permit required. That does not mean they can carry it into a business, it must stay with the vehicle.

And here is 1 reason why everyone should have a readily accessible firearm in the house at all times..

I agree with everything you said except the unarmed drunk. In texas if you feel they are going to do you serious bodily harm you can use deadly force. That has been confirmed in court.

I carry, whether in a car or on the bike. I have a right to carry a gun and an obligation to protect my family. Hopefully, I will never be forced to use it. In all my years, I have shown it one time and I feel if I had not, the best thing that would have happened would have been I would have lost my car.

When ever I am crossing the country, mine or yours, and have one of my kids or wife on the back I pack.. I really could care less about some politicians prospective about my right to protect my family.. Fact is, I would rather spend the rest of my life locked up than to be in a situation where I am helpless to prevent something really bad from happening when my 45 could have stopped it.. BUT,, and its a HUGE but,, I dont frequent bars/parties, and dont touch booze or other mind altering things that interfere with my ability to judge situations.. Also, if things look iffy I go the other way.. Also, there have only been two times in over 30 years of biking that required iron assistance and niether one cost the 20 cents of a discharge - thankfully.. Once on a beach in Northern California and once in a remote campground in BC,, again, thankfully both times with "seeing is believing" ...

When I am alone I only pack if I am going into the wilds where animals could be a problem and that is really rare.. Even on my trips to Sturgis or other crazy places I dont carry.. Fact is,, I would rather give someone my bike or clothes or wallet or what ever then kill someone.. This stuff just aint worth it.. A broken arm or caved in chest from a side kick if given the chance,, yes, but to take a life,, nahhhhh..

Funny one about Canada.. The wife, the kids and I are headed across in Port Huron in our Motorhome.. Going on a 2 month trip... The guard asks if I have any firearms.. I said yep.. He says what for.. I said cause I have a family to protect.. He says, if you would have said for hunting I could let you pass but now I cant.. He said, you can either leave your gun here and pick it up on the way back or turn around,, I said, oh ok,, guess I will turn around and not spend any money in Canada - just stay in the USA where freedom rings and I am still free to protect my own.. I started to pull forward into the turn around area and he stopped me.. He says,, do you promise to keep it locked up.. I said yep, it hasnt been out of the closet in 5 years (old shotgun) and it never will be unless it is absoulutly needed.. We visited Toronto, Novia Scotia, and that place with the worlds biggest tidal action and tital bores (cant remember the name).. Spent almost a month in Canada and never had to call er to duty (thankfully) BUT if I would have it was there!!!

I carry as well when on the road . It may be on my body or secured within a locked compartment depending on the circumstances . When I take a brief rest at a rest area , it's normally with a finger pull away ! I have witness many a crimes that have threaten or caused bodily harm to other motorist from goons and thugs praying on the elderly at rest areas . I have seen people mugged in parking lots of motels and restaurants .

I personally was involved when my dad and myself stopped to help some young teenagers suppossably broken down on the side of the road , to find some others awaiting in the bushes to crack my dad over the head with a tire iron ! Left my dad unconscious and myself stranded out in the middle of nowhere . I have seen motorcyclist pulled to the ground , caught off guard as they could not balance the scoot and get away . At least in a cage , you can get away much easier .

Now I have only had to lay a rifle up on the hood once , just to show some jerks that I will not tolerate any non-sense . I hope I do not have to do it again . I was taught not to draw a weapon , unless I was prepared to use it . I'm not scared to use it either , if it deems necessary to protect my family , friends , the innocent by-standers , or myself . I'm personally handicapped and somewhat physically challenged . A weapon in the right hands , with the right mind is a great equalizer !

Carrying into Canada is not a wise choice to make. They have there laws up there especially about handguns. I dont agree with them but thats what they are and we should respect that. I have crossed the border there a few times and once got searched glad I didn't have a gun that time had to go through Detroit wished I had one there.

My lovely state is very anti carry here, also one of the few in the nation you cant carry and doesnt except permits from other states. If your smart about it and not a total jag and draw attention to yourself they really are not going to search you. I gotta get out here Arizona Texas maybe.

Illinois and Wisconsin are the only 2 states in the Union that do not offer any kind of a concealed/carry permit. Some states are almost impossible to get a permit without paying off the local sheriff, such as California, New York, and Massachusetts.

I was visiting family in MI and went over to Sarnia to go to casino. Border agent asked me, after running my plates, if I had my firearm. Yep, shows up in their puters is you are a permit holder ANYWHERE in the US.

And originally being from OK (very much like TX when it comes to guns) better question might be, how many you got at once? LOL

Some people say why do you need a gun, I never have. I say that 99% of people are good people and the more guns we have in their hands the better off we all are. I just happen to work in a factory that there was a mass murder in and I know some of the survivors wished that they had a gun when it happened. It happened on a different shift from mine so I wasn't there. Very traumatic for everybody but especially the people that were there. In the shooting that happened at the big Colorado church a while back the media called the woman that stopped it a volunteer security guard. What do you want to bet that she was somebody that happened to be carrying at the right time and place?

I carry all the time. 25 years as a cop. I will retire in 5 months and still carry. I cant stop being a man just because I am retired. If I see someone being killed or robbed or raped I will have to act, no matter where I am, cop or not and I will have a gun with me to do it with. Mostly though it is for the protection of my family and myself. I will not carry to Canada though because I do abide by the law.

i never paid any attention, to what the LAW said!

if i am going somewhere, that to me seems dangerous,i carry a handgun, rifle , or shotgun! depends on the situation.

i am seriously looking at purchasing"the judge", made by TARUS.

that way , i only need carry one firearm.

"better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6!

according to my country's constitution, i don't NEED a permit to protect myself, friends, or loved ones!

Guys,

Ya might want to reconsider announcing in a public forum when you carry without regard to the law. I trust all of you, but there are big ears out there, and if your name is scanned, you can be pulled out of line some day...

I'm not a big brother conspiracy type, but computers do some wonderful things...

My .38 stays in my car at all times....may be empty right now cuz I used up all my shots on a rattlesnake in the driveway that I finally had to get a .22, used all the shots on it, then got my 20 guage shotgun to kill it. Don't laugh it was a BIG snake. :rotf:

But I do carry the gun.

Guess I better buy some more ammo.:whistling::rotf:

or just run over the stupid thing with the car hahahaha

Not to steal the thread here but I have another snake story.. Few years ago a man walks into my shop and asked if I happen to have a used intake manifold for a Honda 175 Twin.. I said I though I had a couple of them outback in the junk yard so we went for a walk..

This customer seemed pretty geeked about my old bikes out there and was busily diggy thru bikes looking for what he wanted and chatting all the time.. He was bent over an old Yammie 125 and had his head down between the two bikes looking at the topend on the honda CL175.. I happen to notice the body of a 6' Michigan Blue Racer wrapped around the bars on the Yammie,, I followed the body of the snake to the end that bites and noticed that it was about 8 inches from his head and its little forky tounge was busy tasting the air trying to fiqure out exacty what he was...

The man asked me a couple quick questions concerning the price of the manifolds, I answered him and then switched the conversation to snakes by asking if he was afraid of such... As soon as I mentioned them I KNEW he was a going to be one of those kind of folks by the way he snapped his head up from between the bikes and said "why?? do you have snakes??".

I calmly said, well I dont really have them, they just are around and I happen to notice that Blue Racer hanging from that Yammie checking out the back of your neck a minute ago....

WHEWWWWIEE,, that guy jumped in the air, came down 2 rows of bikes over, hit the ground running and never looked back.. Got in his old Suburban and I never heard from him again....

True story too!!
