she not nervous she is rocking out to the cassette player . :rotf:

What should my tire pressures be ?

Not sure with OEM tires check owners manual or sidewall when you change tires go with what that brand recommends. Hmmm thinking maybe you got me with the cassette joke.:no-no-no: You could go with some classical music that might calm her down.

Sorry... sitting on a bike for "less than a minute" isn't a good way to come to a conclusive decision. Take it for a test ride for a couple hours, feet on the floor boards, spouse on the back.... then make a decision.

When you met your spouse... did you decide in the first minute that you would marry her? Do you buy your cars that quickly ... sales people must have an easy time with you !

Not trying to give you grief. Just saying sitting on the bike stationary is not way to form an opinion.

The machine I sat on was a trike, I cant see staying on it for longer changing the feeling of trying to push my privates back inside me. I sat back against the back rest, but it did not help any. Sorry but that turned me off the possibility of owning a 2nd Gen.

i have 5000kms on my 2012 RSV and as soon as the wife got on i can feel a slight shake at slow speed. My dealer has a beat up 1st gen someone left there 2 years ago and he cant find the guy . Do i need to buy that one too haha?:whistling:

2nd Gen - front 36psi. Try 40psi in the rear. There is a label inside the trunk lid that tells what the tire pressure should be.

For front I run 3psi, rear shock at 10% of rider/passenger load.

Could be the steering head is a bit loose too. See links in previous posts.

Ok guys.......thanks for all the advise on my front end wobble/shimmy. As a result, I took the bike in to the local shop for inspection/repair with a printed out copy of the "Steering Head" fix in the event the mechanic was unaware of the fix.

After careful inspection they advised the front end was tight with no play. They advised there was some minor cupping in the front tire, due to the lateness in the riding season here in Nebraska....I'll replace that when I take the bike in for spring tuning next year.

They suggest putting steering dampers on and explained their miniture shock absorbers and come standard now on many sport bikes. He also indicated they were on the 2011 RSV's. Does anyone know anything about them or have any experience with them?

Don't know that they've fixed my problem.

Thanks

I dont remember seeing them on the 2011 RSV's and I dont think you should need steering dampers on any bike. I can see them on a trike where you rake the forks back,... but what do I know.....everything I know about bikes I learned from here....lol

I agree with Brian....I think they don't know what they are talking about. I don't know of any kind of steering dampers that were added to ANY year model of the RSV. I can also say that my '99 is rock solid at any speed. If the front tire is cupped, that could certainly be the only issue.

I'd go somewhere else for a second opinion or get together with another member.

Do you have a carbon_one lift adapter? Easy to lift the front end and check if the steering head is tight or loose. Could also be bearings are worn out in the steering head if its been ridden loose for a while.

As far as nimble, yes the 1st gen is a bit better in the twisties, but I can guarantee you that a 1st gen will not walk away from a G2 with someone that knows how to ride it.

Assuming stock bikes...

...a "bit" better in the twisties? COME ON! What's gotten into that head of yours? A "bit" better? Sheesh, what a lousy joke! They're as different as night and day, as different as Republicans and Democrats, as different as you and me! So to say a "bit", you gotta be looney. I know that they don't take kindly to drug abusers in the lone star state so your mind must have gotten cooked in that heat down there! That is the only reason I can think of for this illogical post. You're losing it, Buddy. Save yourself before it's too late.

Plus that is some guarantee...which, mind you, is meaningless from a baked mind. So here is my guarantee as long as I own my bike...if ANYBODY on this site thinks they "know how" to ride a G2 like Squid thinks someone can, I will GIVE that person my bike if they "walk away" from me on a mutally agreed route, preferably a race track for safety reasons. Heck, I might even pull a spark plug wire on my bike for the 2nd run on a two out of three contest. GAWD, I can't believe this came from Squid.

Squid, Buddy, are you in there? Is that you behind the keyboard? Speak to me, Buddy. I know you're strong enough to fight this. Hang in there, help is on the way!

Dear Ventureriders far and wide:

Do we need to start a medical fund for Squid's shock therapy?

I do not believe they are checking the same thing. I think they were checking for play in the bearing which is required for a safety inspection but we are refering to the tightness of the steering head brg. Surprisingly slightly too tight or too loose will cause some grief. Not hard to check or fix actually quite easy.

I have owned both as well. About 15,000 miles on a 86 and I can say it felt lighter and I could turn it with ease on the street. After about 75,000 miles on a two second gens they are heavier and it matters none to me which one is faster as I can out run a lot of 1st gens as they must be afraid of tickets as they back off earlier than I.

Personaly the second gen is more comfortable, a little harder to ride (only requires a little more attention which is not a bad thing), has a better sound system, and has more room to stretch out. And that Plastic on a first gen is just annoying.

Too each there own. Both good machines and when taken care of will give you many thousands of enjoyment and that is all that matters.

Even BoomerC3PO was praising 1st gen's a week ago.

You need to remember that Texas roads don't have many nicely banked high speed curves. Riding for miles straight might have made Squid forget what the 1st gen does.
