SMSgt Posted August 19, 2012 #1 Posted August 19, 2012 I just got back from a 2600 mile trip to S Dakota from Southern UT. Now my 03 RSV is leaving little spots of oil on the garage floor under the vent hoses that come out of the bottom of the motorcycle just aft of the engine. The oil spot is about 2 to 3 inches long and 1 inch wide and it is not dark dirty motor oil but still it looks like motor oil. My guess it is coming from some kind of breather hose or something. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? I didn't have this same issue last year when I got home from a 6500 mile coast to coast trip. Thanks Kent
Phoneman1981 Posted August 19, 2012 #3 Posted August 19, 2012 Hello: I have seen other posts and also experienced this issue first hand if the oil level in the engine is over full. No more than 1/2 way up in the sight glass. Otherwise oil drips from the breather tubes.

CaptainJoe Posted August 19, 2012 #5 Posted August 19, 2012 I stick a 2x4 under the kickstand on my second gen. Close enough to level for me. Just leave it in first gear and make sure the sight glass is at the half way mark. (no more).
Rick Haywood Posted August 19, 2012 #6 Posted August 19, 2012 It's blow-bye from running 75-85 mph for an extended length of time. It really isn't that big a deal. Mine does it sometimes after running it hard for a longgggg time. It really isn't very much oil to speak of. probably less than a few drops.
M61A1MECH Posted August 19, 2012 #7 Posted August 19, 2012 My 07 does that if I do long high speed runs on the Interstate, it is just blow by. You can pull the secondary air box under the tank where the vent tube is connected and wipe out the excess oil that has collected, that will stop the oil spots.
midnightventure Posted August 19, 2012 #8 Posted August 19, 2012 The fact that it is clean says shock to me. When mine failed I had a pretty big puddle right under the shock which just happens to be close to where those vent hoses hang.
M61A1MECH Posted August 19, 2012 #9 Posted August 19, 2012 Midnight venture may have something there I completely missed that detail. Could be the shock. Check the boot around the shock and the bottom of the shock to see if it is wet.
bongobobny Posted August 19, 2012 #10 Posted August 19, 2012 Maybe it picked up some bad habits while in Sturgis??? Careful, next thing you know it will start shedding parts...
