My "88" has not nickle and dimed me. Nor, has it cost me much cash. All she wants from me is gas, tires and fresh 15-40, every 3000 or so. I love her. LOL! $1500.00 bucks and 20,000 miles later.... I think I will never, sell this bike. Lately I have got her purring down the road better, since I grew a pair and drained the bowls. :) I will be the first to say "I have been lucky" but the first gens are solid. cept for the plastic:225:

Now thats the kind of tidbits I'm looking for. So, the Venture has a different gear ratio and more HP than the RSTD?

The RSTD has a wider spaced gearset than a 2nd gen Venture. As you can see, comparing 5th gear on each. an RSTD is .750 and the Venture is .786. Numerically, the lower the number, the higher it is geared.

I wonder why the numbers are missing in the 6th column?

But I'm guessing the difference is due to the factory compensating for the heavier weight of the Venture, slightly shorter gearing to help with acceleration. The difference, according to the chart, is very small.

Still, it does mean that my first assumption was in error when I said they should be the same.

I don't see a number for the RSTD. The .750 number is for that Royal Star bike they made from 1996 to 2001. They made the RSTD all the way up until last year.

I agree. Those numbers are NOT for the newer RSTD. I honestly didn't think that there was any difference in the RSV and the latest RSTD models in gearing or in HP.

Rick, you almost had it right, I think this is what you really meant to say.........:stirthepot::stirthepot:

As for the difference between the 1st and 2nd gen just wait and you will get all the replies from the 1st gener's.................. they are better riders, higher class and just all around better people because they ride a 1st gen.
