adventurer 08 Posted August 17, 2012 #1 Posted August 17, 2012 Right next to my 08 RSV now sit's a 1987 blue Venture 1st Gen. It's in real good shape for it age. Rode it home with no issues just a few rattles. Pics will come after i wash it up.
Brown Angel Posted August 17, 2012 #2 Posted August 17, 2012 you have a 2nd gen. and just asking why go for the 1st? Serious question....
ragtop69gs Posted August 17, 2012 #3 Posted August 17, 2012 probably just wanted to reassure himself that 2nd Gens are the best of the 2 by far.
tomephil Posted August 17, 2012 #4 Posted August 17, 2012 probably just wanted to reassure himself that 2nd Gens are the best of the 2 by far. Hmmm...
KIC Posted August 17, 2012 #5 Posted August 17, 2012 Another one sees the light of truth and speed. Welcome to the other (fastest) side of the fence...
Stanman Posted August 17, 2012 #6 Posted August 17, 2012 probably just wanted to reassure himself that 2nd Gens are the best of the 2 by far. You wish. Dream on!!!
XV1100SE Posted August 17, 2012 #7 Posted August 17, 2012 you have a 2nd gen. and just asking why go for the 1st? Serious question.... Could be that he likes collecting antiques !
reddevilmedic Posted August 17, 2012 #8 Posted August 17, 2012 lets face it....first gens are cooler!
ragtop69gs Posted August 17, 2012 #9 Posted August 17, 2012 lets face it....first gens are cooler! Yes they are cooler......Than my first mini-bike
FreezyRider Posted August 17, 2012 #10 Posted August 17, 2012 I have a 1976 GL1000 sitting next to my 2003 GL1800. Just because you have an older one doesn't mean that you have "seen the light" and it's better than the newer one. Just means you are a MC junkie, like me!!
Blackjack Posted August 17, 2012 #11 Posted August 17, 2012 you have a 2nd gen. and just asking why go for the 1st? Serious question.... Your question is the equivalent of: if you like apples can you also like oranges? The answer is: of course! Aside from all of the back-and-forth banter everyone knows that the 1st and 2nd Generation bikes are two completely different animals. One is a sport/touring bike and the other is a cruiser/touring bike. Each one sits, rides, and handles very differently from the other. Accordingly, one is not, and cannot be, better than the other, for any reason. You will no doubt hear opinions to the contrary, but you will not likely be provided with facts to substantiate those opinions. They are both phenomenal, in their own right, and I see no problem or issue with owning at least one of each...
Venturous Randy Posted August 17, 2012 #12 Posted August 17, 2012 Very good answer Blackjack. Yes, they are different bikes and a lot of 2nd genners know very little about a 1st gen, actually, many 2nd genners know very little about a 2nd gen, other than how to put gas in it and how to take it back to the dealer. I have to admit, I would like to add a 2nd gen to my bikes, but for the fun, screaming to 8,000 rpm's and throwing it around kind of riding, I would definately want to keep my 1st gen, especially with it being an MK1.
