I'm about to check the valves on my '05 Venture.Do I need to buy new valve cover gaskets or are they rubber reusable ones?I want to have everything I need before I tear into the bike because I'm doing it in a friends' garage.Anything else I will need? Thanks in advance for the help.

I would absolutely replace the gaskets. They are now 7 years old. There is every likelihood that they have hardened some over the years. It's way too much trouble to have to tear it down again later to replace them if they leak.

I am doing mine now , Skydoc has a deal if you buy the gaskets from him he will loan you everything out of normal tools you need just pay shipping. Also look in the tech library at Gooses right up.

:sign yeah that: +1

Skydoc's kit has what you'll need usually, if it does not have a shim you need most dealer service departments will swap you shim for shim .

Thanks guys. This job is over my head but my friend is much better at this than me.I'll see what tools he has and decide if I need the kit.

Yea its above a pry bar and block of wood deal. However I did see a pic where a fellow was using a flat piece of metal bolted to the cam journal and a piece of all thread. Somehow I'm sure thats not an approved way to get it done.

Unless your friend has a Venture or VMax, you will need the special tool.

RR

What is the special tool? Do you have a part number?

The bike has 30,000 miles on it,what are the odds that any are out of spec?

There are several different part numbers but they all will be like this.

I just did two bikes with 40K on both and 8 valves were out of spec on one and 4 on the other, wish I had checked them like the book said at 26.
