spear Posted August 23, 2012 Author #26 Posted August 23, 2012 Thank you one and all for your prayers, thoughts and good wishes. We gave Dad one helluva send-off. I am one of six kids and we - yes WE - conducted the funeral service in the chapel at the crematorium. My sister is a Civil Celebrant so she 'called the shots'. A representative from the Returned Servicemen's League attended and delivered a tribute - Dad was in the navy during WW2. All our kids were there, my three doing a 2,000 miles flying round trip in 30 hours. Mum is doing quite well - considering. All in all a great celebration of a great life. Thanks again folks. I've lost a good mate, but we move on.
Phoneman1981 Posted August 23, 2012 #27 Posted August 23, 2012 Thanks for keeping us posted. Glad your event went well. Nice tribute.
JohnT Posted August 23, 2012 #28 Posted August 23, 2012 So sorry for your loss. Truly sorry. I can't tell you if it's been 3 years or 4 this past April that I lost my Dad. Now and then I refresh my memory of the date but it never sticks in my mind. I do know that every now and then, still, I catch mysel thinking, "I've got to call Dad and tell him about this,,," and then remember I can't. But then I remember that he already knows. And he is most likely shaking his head and saying, "Ya dumb $hi+" and laughing.
paysaw Posted August 23, 2012 #29 Posted August 23, 2012 So sorry for your loss.My father has leukemia and is on his way too .We are starting to knock off some of his bucket list too. I just did my Iron Butt Run as a tribute to my father.May his soul rest in peace. I know is soul remains in your life and guides you to all things thoughtfull and beautiful. Ray:backinmyday:
Eck Posted August 23, 2012 #30 Posted August 23, 2012 So sorry for your loss my friend. I lost my dad last year. Your choice of poems is "rigth on time"...........I like it !! The clock of life is wound but once, And no man has the power To tell just when the hands will stop At late or early hour. To lose one's wealth is sad indeed, To lose one's health is more, To lose one's soul is such a loss That no man can restore. The present only is our own, So Live, Love, toil with a will -- Place no faith in 'Tomorrow' -- For the clock may then be still.
saddlebum Posted August 23, 2012 #31 Posted August 23, 2012 Sorry to hear you had to loose your Dad. Hope the surviving family is holding up OK
