ragtop69gs Posted September 3, 2012 #51 Posted September 3, 2012 OK here's the problem, just as I suspected, a bad ignition cut off relay assembly... Anybody got a spare?? Doubt I can get one by Wednesday morning... A little Seafoam aught to fix that
Carbon_One Posted September 3, 2012 #52 Posted September 3, 2012 Jay does may a good point there. Or maybe another NY member would be willing to give up their relay till you get back. I'd even loan mine if you could get here. Larry
bongobobny Posted September 3, 2012 Author #53 Posted September 3, 2012 You could also look at it this way, What it would cost at the dealer will still be less than the cost of additional gas in the cage. Or you could go to Pioneer on bended knee and plead for the relay off the RSV sitting on the showroom floor.Nope! The car gets about 4 - 5 MPG better!! We usually get around 22 expressway 70+ MPH 2 up hauling the trailer, the Malibu gets 26 - 27 MPG. If Pioneer is open tomorrow I'm going to see if I can get a new one under warranty but it may have been neglegance on my part that caused the module to become unmounted and lay against the engine...
BradT Posted September 3, 2012 #54 Posted September 3, 2012 Or you could go to Pioneer on bended knee and plead for the relay off the RSV sitting on the showroom floor. Like this idea. Is this part only used on a Venture ? Doubt they need the part or could do without out it for a few weeks. Good luck and Enjoy the trip Brad
PBJ Posted September 3, 2012 #55 Posted September 3, 2012 Bob What do i know, but does the fIrst gen use a relay like that at all? Might you not have one off of one of the parts bikes you have around. If the 1st gen does have that relay but you no longer have a good one. Could you show me where i might find it on my 85. If its there its yours.
bongobobny Posted September 3, 2012 Author #56 Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks Phil, but unfortunately it is a 2nd gen part, combination fuel pump and start circuit relays built into one unit
PBJ Posted September 3, 2012 #57 Posted September 3, 2012 NUTS! so sorry then. Theres a bike junk yard in Fairport NY called Kings motorsports give them a call . If they have one I can pick it up and meet you half way.
ragtop69gs Posted September 3, 2012 #58 Posted September 3, 2012 Nope! The car gets about 4 - 5 MPG better!! We usually get around 22 expressway 70+ MPH 2 up hauling the trailer, the Malibu gets 26 - 27 MPG. . There ya go trying to use logic on me, I don't like that What's the P\N for the relay ? I'll see if I can hunt one up, if I can, trailer the trike and we'll fix it here or I can overnite it.
Carbon_One Posted September 3, 2012 #59 Posted September 3, 2012 Well if he trailers the trike here he can take the one of my bike. It won't be getting used until after 15th due to me being out of town then. Larry
bongobobny Posted September 3, 2012 Author #60 Posted September 3, 2012 You guys are waaaay too kind!! I'm going to check with Pioneer this AM if they will replace it under warranty. New the part is most likely well over $100. The equivalent 1st gen part for half of the module is around $90 and there is a second relay in the box. The relay had gotten disdlodged from it's mount and was laying on the ehgine explaining why it was thermal acting, but they may claim neglegence on my part for that... The way we feel about it is there must be a reason why this happened. Either it happened where it did to prevent us from being stranded, or God has another reason why He does not want us taking the trike this time...
Phoneman1981 Posted September 3, 2012 #61 Posted September 3, 2012 Hello Bob: Great way to look at it. Everything happens for a reason. Either way you go, I am sure you will have a good time. If you would consider riding a two wheeler rather than a trike, I would gladly ride my RSTD to the black hills this coming weekend and leave it with friends, you would be welcome to use it while you are in the black hills area. Bring your riding gear! Lee and I would return the following weekend, ride the hills and then ride on home, it is only 4 hours from us. Hope to see you on the 14th? either way. Let me know if you are interested in my offer...Mark
bongobobny Posted September 3, 2012 Author #62 Posted September 3, 2012 Hey Mark! Thanks for the offer but Becky is afraid to ride with me on 2 wheels, and although I can still do 2 wheels I would rather not risk dropping someone else's bike. Still plan on at least meeting up with you as planned! We can always return to the area next year at this time combining it with the PIP. Would love to do Needles Hwy on the trike. We will do it in the car this year unless a miracle happens...
Phoneman1981 Posted September 3, 2012 #63 Posted September 3, 2012 I understand. We can always meet you or others there most anytime. Keep us posted....
bongobobny Posted September 3, 2012 Author #64 Posted September 3, 2012 Man, this website is da Bomb!!! I am overwhelmed with offers in this thread as well as offers via PM's!!! You guys are the greatest!!! As far as riding in the badlands on the trike we are now planning that for this time next year after going to the PIP. We will have already seen the tourist stuff so we can concentrate on the riding then! When life gives you lemons, make lemonade...
OrlinEngh Posted September 4, 2012 #65 Posted September 4, 2012 Bob Sorry we wont be able to meet up on Satarday, we have to meet up some of the family and then off to a benifitt, will have to meet up the next time around. Orlin
bongobobny Posted September 4, 2012 Author #66 Posted September 4, 2012 No Problem Orlin, maybe at the International next summer or the PIP next year!!

bongobobny Posted September 6, 2012 Author #72 Posted September 6, 2012 Hi Ya'all!! I'm on Ragtop's computer. No chance to post pictures from tonite but having the time of our lives!! Jay and Jeannie are great hosts!! Fun crowd showed up tonite and I'm stuffed!!! Try to post a couple of pic's tomorrow! So far today's adventures. Left the house 3 times before we were finally on the road! Saw some Canadian wildlife on the QEW, a "Timmy's" cup rolling across the highway. Marcarl suggested a great place for lunch, Montana's and it was very good and filling!! Coming across at Michigan the last question the Customs guy asked is if I ever lost my car in a parking lot! He then mentioned the initials on my door to explain his comment. Got here about quarter to 6. Spending part of tomorrow with my sister in a nearby town, expect to get to the other side of the state by tomorrow evening. Meeting up with Boo and Hoo Friday afternoon on the way to Flying Fool's place! I got this really cool retirement baloon from the MI gang and I'm collecting autographs along the way!
Phoneman1981 Posted September 6, 2012 #73 Posted September 6, 2012 Enjoy your trip. Still hoping to meet you both in Bridgeport Nebraska on your return trip on Sept. 14th. Patrolman46 ride along also. Not many members at this end of the state.
bongobobny Posted September 6, 2012 Author #74 Posted September 6, 2012 OK Nestled in a comfy Hampton Inn in Masshall MI for the night. Have to call Boo to meet up with him tomorrow and Flying Fool so I know exactly where I'm going! I'll post after dinner...
bongobobny Posted September 7, 2012 Author #75 Posted September 7, 2012 OK here's a couple of pictures from last night. First is just relaxing and socializing. The second is Carbon one trying to figure out where he is. The 3rd is the baloon for all of you to sign...
