Black wing Posted August 8, 2012 #1 Posted August 8, 2012 so i am just kinda curious as to how old the average venture rider is, most say i am too young to ride an "old man bike" since i am only 19 but im sure im not the only one out there.
Squidley Posted August 8, 2012 #2 Posted August 8, 2012 most say i am too young to ride an "old man bike" They might be surprised when the "Old Man" bike smokes them off the line....I have done that before
shuttlebug Posted August 8, 2012 #3 Posted August 8, 2012 Old man bike? I beg to differ. You don't have to be old to have good taste! My husband and I were in our 20's when we got our first touring bike, a full dressed 1980 KZ1000.
Black wing Posted August 8, 2012 Author #4 Posted August 8, 2012 haha yes some of us do just have good taste. i got my first goldwing at 17
Cougar Posted August 8, 2012 #5 Posted August 8, 2012 Oh yes !! the good old 1980 KZ1000 had one myself at the old age of 24
Prairiehammer Posted August 8, 2012 #6 Posted August 8, 2012 Old man's bike, indeed! Humph! I bought my first Venture when I was 33! I suppose to a 19 year old, even 33 is old.
pmelah Posted August 11, 2012 #8 Posted August 11, 2012 one son is 20 and the other is 16 they both want my 99 RSTD my daughter is 14 on the 28th of this month and she wants both the 84 Venture and the 99 RSTD iv got kids with good taste :cool10:
dingy Posted August 14, 2012 #10 Posted August 14, 2012 They might be surprised when the "Old Man" bike smokes them off the line....I have done that before I have caused at least two HD riders to put significant money in their motors to alleviate the shame of an old fat guy on a barco-lounger totally embarrassing them. Not to mention the run of the mill sportster or dyna that is a fleeting meeting. Gary
Gary N. Posted August 14, 2012 #11 Posted August 14, 2012 I'm 18. But I'm trapped in a 60 year old body.
Evan Posted August 14, 2012 #12 Posted August 14, 2012 Both of my daughters rode their own motorcycles when they were teenagers - 30 years ago. I had a KZ650 and an Interstate back then.
mini-muffin Posted August 15, 2012 #13 Posted August 15, 2012 Well we do have another 19 yr old that I know of on the site. Chaharly he lives in Nebraska, so you aren't alone. Margaret
MasterGuns Posted August 17, 2012 #15 Posted August 17, 2012 They might be surprised when the "Old Man" bike smokes them off the line....I have done that before Hey Brad; want to take on this old man's FJR?
Dave G 5150 Posted August 19, 2012 #16 Posted August 19, 2012 i can say that i am 43 years old, and while i don't consider 43 old, it IS OLDER THAN I'VE EVER BEEN BEFORE!!!! LOL ...Dave
Squidley Posted August 19, 2012 #17 Posted August 19, 2012 I have caused at least two HD riders to put significant money in their motors to alleviate the shame of an old fat guy on a barco-lounger totally embarrassing them. Not to mention the run of the mill sportster or dyna that is a fleeting meeting. Gary I love a story with a happy ending Gary Hey Brad; want to take on this old man's FJR? Herb....I could get myself in SO much trouble with that bike
SeekerFor Posted August 20, 2012 #18 Posted August 20, 2012 The only reason they make comments like that is they know NOTHING about how to repair a bike and are afraid or to lazy to learn. To ride the classic bikes you need to be willing to get your hands dirty once and awhile as more than one shop is staffed by "technicians" who can only plug a bike in and are lost when it comes to the classics. And by the way these bikes are Classics not old! You ride and hold your head high as you're amongst the finest! Welcome!
PBJ Posted August 20, 2012 #20 Posted August 20, 2012 Well I ride a Venture with the Lady Friend but my other bike is a V65 sabre that I have owned since new. 105hp.at the rear wheel 565lbs. In her day before all the light weight repliracers she was a monster, topped only by the V Max the next year. I guess age is only mean you have more experience and the knowledge of how to use it. LOL!
bongobobny Posted August 21, 2012 #21 Posted August 21, 2012 I feel young when I ride my Venture!!!!!
Yama Mama Posted September 7, 2012 #22 Posted September 7, 2012 I will keep riding as long as I can get my leg up high enough to get on the bike! Now if I cannot get off the bike, that is another situation. Yama Mama:crackup::crackup:
Douginflorida Posted September 12, 2012 #23 Posted September 12, 2012 I just voted in my age...Yes I am part of the old guys rule demographic...Now at 53,every time I get on my "old" 98 RSTD I feel like the 19 year old kid I once was riding my 1976 HD Bicentennial 1200 Superglide!!Yes my 1st bike.Age is just a state of mind...
Telos Posted October 6, 2012 #24 Posted October 6, 2012 My father used to say, "You're only as old as who you feel". I ride occasionally with guys on age appropriate bikes. The youngest 20 something guy now rides one of those new Ducati Panigales. The middle 30 something guy is on a naked Buell. I ride a RSTD with a backrest. I think that sums it up.
brainfart Posted October 18, 2012 #25 Posted October 18, 2012 Old?!?!? well, i guess so.. prefer to think of myself as experienced or seasoned.. my favorite Venture "trick".. cruising down the freeway at 70 - 75mph in 4th gear as we come alongside an HD rider or two. Give'm a little wave (or tip my coffee cup at'em), slide into 5th gear and motor away... AZ speed limit is often 75...
