jeremy_abfalter Posted August 7, 2012 #1 Posted August 7, 2012 I would like to buy a set of jardines but after a week of searching I've had no luck. So I was thinking about removing the mufflers at the slip connector and putting on some 24" chrome tip turndowns, I have also looked for sound clips of option two with no luck. Does anyone have an idea if it would sound good or if it would just sound terrible. I can no longer take riding around on a bike that sounds like it belongs on the Jetson's
Yammer Dan Posted August 7, 2012 #2 Posted August 7, 2012 I've looked at the J C Whitney pipes. I think someone did those. Not sure how they came out but I ran the Blue Beast a while without mufflers....:whistling:Kind of liked it.
Wizard765 Posted August 7, 2012 #3 Posted August 7, 2012 Welcome to the site!! Some folks just drill out the originals and it sounds louder. I believe there are Macs around also that have a nice sound.
Power Trippin Posted August 7, 2012 #4 Posted August 7, 2012 As for me, I like it quiet and stealthy. If I want to hear it, I just twist the fun wheel a little more.
dingy Posted August 7, 2012 #5 Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) 1st thread has video clip with Marks header only on. 2nd photobucket link is with mostly gutted mufflers. FYI, smoking in 2nd one has been mostly corrected with valve seals. For some reason, it is showing photobucket clip twice, no idea how to fix that. I can no longer take riding around on a bike that sounds like it belongs on the Jetson's it would sound horrible, but then I am not one of the wake babies and scare little old ladies crowd. I had a set of bub pipes on my 2001 Royalstar they had a mello9w rumble but would roar when I got on it. I far prefer the stock pipes on my 2007 midrsv
reddevilmedic Posted August 7, 2012 #7 Posted August 7, 2012 i just did thrush glasspacks. sound nice.
johnnydemonic Posted August 7, 2012 #8 Posted August 7, 2012 I rode mine around for a few days with a couple temporary straight pipes coming right off the collector, where the mufflers normally connect, while I modded my stock mufflers. Unfortunately, I don't have any audio, but imagine the sound of two harleys with straight pipes coming down the road, only faster, quicker, more powerful and more pissed off, and you will be imagining the sound of a venture with the exhaust you're thinking of. I loved the sound, but it was VERY LOUD, and once I gutted my mufflers, I had something close to the same only not quite as loud. If I was going to chop my venture, I would do straight pipes because then it would only be making short trips, but the sheer mega volume for long trips would be highly irritating. One another note, it does hurt low end torque to have open pipes, you need some back pressure, but there seems to be torque to spare. Anyway, that's my opinion.
norsk1 Posted October 25, 2012 #9 Posted October 25, 2012 :900[1]:years ago I talked to a fella with a hopped up VMax. 140 hp. straight pipes, was loud as hell but was a wicked race car kind of sound. Wish I remembered what else he did to it.
uncledj Posted October 25, 2012 #10 Posted October 25, 2012 I had a friend on a Harley with loud pipes who pulled up next to me at a light and laughed and said "geez, is that thing even running"?..... That was the last thing that was said before I SMOKED him. I like the idea that my comfortable, quiet bike performs so well. I'll keep it the way it is.
timgray Posted October 26, 2012 #11 Posted October 26, 2012 A venture with straight pipes makes every Harley made sound like a little wimpy moped. At the Muskegon Bike, Time someone had a blue one with straight pipes, 4 of them. and it put every harley to shame in noise level and mean-ness sound.
bongobobny Posted May 21, 2014 #13 Posted May 21, 2014 Yeah Dingy, where??? You forgot to give me the phone number...
Venturous Randy Posted May 21, 2014 #14 Posted May 21, 2014 I had a friend on a Harley with loud pipes who pulled up next to me at a light and laughed and said "geez, is that thing even running"?..... Yep, I did that to a guy on a Big Dog type Harley. He was sitting beside me at a light rapping the throttle and when the light changed, he nailed it as we were going up a long on ramp onto the interstate. His bike was screaming and I drove right by him. We had to slow as there was a car in front that was merging onto the highway. As soon as it was clear that there was not any traffic coming, I swung over in the left lane with him right behind me and again, pulled away from him. I shut it down and he went screaming by me and he wouldn't even look over at me when I waved at him. RandyA
Stache Posted May 21, 2014 #15 Posted May 21, 2014 2010 when I first got my RSTD an obvious Harley fan pulled up next to me at a stoplight. He had all the gear, all with the logo, all obviously new. He revved a few times, his bike just rumbling and shaking, looked over at me and called "Nice sewing machine". I replied "Nice vibrator! Get off on it?" That's when the race started. We accelerated from the light down the highway onramp as I pulled away gaining ground steadily. Haven't seen him since.
