playboy Posted August 4, 2012 #1 Posted August 4, 2012 I just checked my rear tire and have 3/32's left in the very center groove. Don't think I would want to take a long trip on it but it should last awhile longer. Approx. 12,000 miles on it now with no cracking. How much do you think is left in the life of the tire.
playboy Posted August 4, 2012 Author #3 Posted August 4, 2012 LOL Avon Venom Didn't want to start another tire debate but oh well
friesman Posted August 4, 2012 #4 Posted August 4, 2012 If you have an AVON, Ive heard that they wear really quickly once down to about where you are. Some guys are reporting being down to cords in something like a hundred miles when getting close to the end of life of the tire. Brian
Guest scarylarry Posted August 4, 2012 #5 Posted August 4, 2012 No not another debate.. Like friesman said, "Avons" and yes I run them when they get down low they seem to lose rubber almost to were you can see them lose it.. I like the tire but they are the only that will disappear when they get low... I would watch it ride local, order one cause it won't be long till you need one...

Brian I agree with above...I made it approx. 1000 miles from that depth above the wear bars. Be aware...the wear may be different when checked elsewhere on the center. So rotate the tire on the center stand and check it at ALL wear bars. You are speaking of the wear bars...yes ? Once your wear bar is flush....you are DONE!
playboy Posted August 4, 2012 Author #7 Posted August 4, 2012 Just checked to the bottom of center tread depth in several places not sure about wear bars Anyone bought any avons lately couldn't find them listed at jake wilson mc superstore did @ 160.99 for rear
Guest scarylarry Posted August 4, 2012 #8 Posted August 4, 2012 Yes and type in size and brand in the JW search engine... Wear bars are in the center of the tire runs from side to side in the center you will have to look for them they are scatterd out in the center..
playboy Posted August 4, 2012 Author #9 Posted August 4, 2012 Thanks found them lol had to call them to do it though. yes 3/32 to wear bar checked the front too and same thing so I'm ordering a new set front and rear. Are the valve stems a standard size need on straight and one 90 deg. $ 293.00 for the set @ Jake Wilson
Guest scarylarry Posted August 4, 2012 #10 Posted August 4, 2012 I have used the same valve stems since 09 but they are metal and appear good everytime I check them.. The rear is 90 degrees and the front is straight... I don't know the size though...
darthandy Posted August 4, 2012 #11 Posted August 4, 2012 Valve stem size is the same for most Japanese bikes - 11.3mm / .453 in. Most European bikes use an 8.3 mm / 3.27 in. The 8.3 mm stems are what I have on my Triumph. Definitely go with the metal valves a they last a lot longer. Andy
friesman Posted August 4, 2012 #12 Posted August 4, 2012 I wouldnt use the rubber stem, I was on a ride with a bunch of VRO riders headed to Venture West rally a few years ago, when Lone Eagle had trouble controlling the bike as his tire went flat,. When he had a good look at it the rubber valve stem had a crack in it allowing a very fast leak happen. Brian
djh3 Posted August 5, 2012 #13 Posted August 5, 2012 I am sort of in same situation. I have E 3s on mine @ 14500 and about same wear. I have a 2 up. About 1200 mile. Trip planned in mid Oct and am pretty sure it will need swapped out by then.
