2nd Gen speedometer off - Warranty claim?

Has anyone with a 2nd Gen approached Yamaha about the speedometer being off ? Was wondering what Yamaha would say if someone made a warranty claim for it.

I believe they have to be more than 10% off to get anytype of warranty on it.

 

Heard this was an automotive standard but do not know if it is true.

I think the industry standard is + or - 5 mph at 50 mph. If you check your speed at 50 mph I should be within that tolerance. Of course at 70 mph it will 6-7 mph. If you can prove yours is off greater than 5 mph at 50 you may have a good arguement.

The speedo is off approx 7% so at 50 mph on the speedo which is about 3.5 mph so you are only going about 46.5 mph

 

At 70 your doing about 65

On motorcycles, manufacturers are allowed to be off by up to 10%, therefore your speedo falls within allowable limits. No warranty claim allowed there! I have heard (But can't prove it.) that in Europe, the manufacturers are encouraged to produce optimistic speedos. The idea is that people will run over the limits without realizing that they aren't that far over.The lawmakers are of course assuming that the average motorcyclist is so incredibly stupid that he/she won't quickly discover what is going on.

Yes we do.

That is so that when we are riding with 2nd gens we can still register the lower speeds.

Nope, don't need a bicycle speedometer, as my 1st gen is spot on. We never had the problems like the 2nd gen have.

mine was off quite a bit so i go the speedohealer. love it. spot on now.
