jfoster Posted August 2, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 2, 2012 I think the industry standard is + or - 5 mph at 50 mph. If you check your speed at 50 mph I should be within that tolerance. Of course at 70 mph it will 6-7 mph. If you can prove yours is off greater than 5 mph at 50 you may have a good arguement. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

darthandy Posted August 2, 2012 Share #6 Posted August 2, 2012 On motorcycles, manufacturers are allowed to be off by up to 10%, therefore your speedo falls within allowable limits. No warranty claim allowed there! I have heard (But can't prove it.) that in Europe, the manufacturers are encouraged to produce optimistic speedos. The idea is that people will run over the limits without realizing that they aren't that far over.The lawmakers are of course assuming that the average motorcyclist is so incredibly stupid that he/she won't quickly discover what is going on.
